mx5 eunos

Hey man, let me know when you do want to sell it

How did you get hold of it? Only 100 of the platinum made apparently (my friend has the black limited edition of which 500 were made)?

they do tend to come up for sale now and again, only 100 ever made unfortunatly but its worth keeping a look out if your interested. I've seen two others in the flesh, and a couple of the back ones (500 made, black leather and exterior)

There are also a wealth of other special editions which give nice interiors and little extras :)

edit: damn ninjas ;) Guess i was just lucky tbh, didn't come with the luggage unfortuantly, and the cd changer was missing, but that didn't really bother me as i put an alpine HU in pretty quickly :)

I bought a M reg Eunos Roadster for the other half about 6 years ago if memory serves. 1.8 engine I think? I have to say that I found the feel/drive to be 'basic'. Please don't take offence, I don't mean anything by that. It was reliable, went where you pointed it, quickly enough I suppose and could be very tail happy when you wanted it to be. Bought ours in good condition, stuck half a metric ton of 'pretty' chrome bits in to the interior to rejuvenate it a bit for madam, then the steering column started acting up 9 months agfter purchase and we traded it in for various reasons.

Can't say much bad about them from my experience. They just work.

My next purchase is going to be a triumph spitfire/stag I'm planning on doing up, just looking for one that doesn't need that much work, knowing my luck I'll see one just as I've spend several thousands on refurbishment of the other one.

I prefer the black limited edition mx5 I think, especially as I get to drive it occasionally, not a huge fan of the red interior but would still love to get my hands on one.

I totally disagree with Virdi's comments. The MX-5 is one of the least boring cars I've driven. They are an absolute hoot to throw around although you may find it ultimately lacking in overall power, but that doesn't really matter because the chassis is so good that you can just play with oversteer by lifting off rather than booting it to get power-over.

Lovely little cars.

Watch the black cars, cause jap paint is so soft, for example i can scratch my top coat with my fingernail they swirl up really bad if not washed correctly, nothing that a good machine polish won't fix but if buying black the dealer might have polished it up to hide the swirls (like mine did :( )

Exactly :)

Shift locking works for me, but power-over out of junctions or down gravel roads is fun :)

Well the black limited edition I'm talking about is the British made Jasper Conran version (500 made), not the Japanese Eunos - sorry, its kinda evolved into a general mx5 thread :p

Ah, hmm :p

My friends version has been repainted British Racing Green (not sure if thats lowered the value or not?). Looks awesome, I think that's what I'd be after.

platnum conran is actually painted in the uk.... i kinda doubt thats the case for the black though as its a normal colour :)

and shift lock/clutch kick or just feint are all good ways to get the back out on the five, although the latter takes a bit of doing as there kinda set up to encorage understeer (wusses ;))

They are great cars. We use one as a daily driver as well as my fun thrash mobile! You will pay more for insurance on an import (more of an issue if you are a younger driver). Condition may be better than the equiv UK car but its not guaranteed. In my opinion they are more likely to have been clocked than UK cars.. Personally if going for a Mk1 I would go for a special edition such as the Merlot, Gleneagles or Monza. They are highly practical for a sports car as they are reliable, the parts are cheap and they are fine on the motorway.

Most owners, keep them for years... simply because they just don't go wrong!!

Personally I disagree. I admit that I would not want a 1.6 with the low power engine but I find my 1.8 is a hoot. It may not have all the power in the world but you can have so much fun thrashing it and hammering thru the bends that it feels a lot faster and can be safely pushed further on a public road than some of the more high powered sports cars. The only time I want more power is for blasting past "dross" when there is limited opportunity to do so.

Only problem i have on the motorway is the huge blindspot!

MEH! :p In that case always drive on the motorway with the roof down!!!! I did this in Feb when those mega high winds were reported. The service station staff (and pretty much everyone else) thought I was bonkers and they were probably right. I had a great time tho! Stick the heater on and it's not even cold really.
