Had the front/rear pads replaced in my wife's MX5, green stuffs replacing green stuffs, same discs as previously, which were changed at last pad change, circa 25K ago. Terrible groaning noise under braking and vibration so thinking warped discs. Thoughts?

Takes a fair bit to warp the discs. I've done 2 goes of oulton on this latest set and a curburough, boiling the fluid the first time at oulton and they're still going strong. Aren't any deposits left on the discs that are now contacting a now perfectly flat pad being new?

Side note - Anyone doing Oulton Park with Mazda On Track start of November?

I sense an Italian Service is needed. Did one at the weekend and they improved, another should sort it. Deposits I think you’re right

Just got my NBFL back, having had it under-sealed at MX5restorers in Eastbourne.
Great to be back in it, following the far from unpleasant panzer-wagon.

Just treated the mx5 to a present:

DSC_3088.jpg

Bit concerned about underbonnet temps so will wrap the manifold and put some sort of heatshield in front of the alternator.

A sensor extension kit came with included but both sensors need moving so I've ordered some 4 core wire from eBay and will solder and heatshrink those in.

I don't own any welding equipment so intend to fit a band-on bung for the post-cat sensor on the midpipe.

Once in she'll be ready for an mx5 race rom remap!

Nice :)

Anyone else off to Curborough this Saturday for the owners club Sprint Day? My first time doing a sprint. Wanted a change from normal trackdays so thought I'd give it a try. Also interested in hill climbing which is kinda similar I guess.

Cross post from What have you done to your car today thread.

Finally go around to tuning the replacement engine after the bent con rod fiasco.

Went a lot more sensible on the torque front and fell short on the old peak power numbers but I'm not disappointed its LOL fast still. I'd not quite got the Speed/RPM right on the dyno so the whole torque curve needs to shift to the right by 300rpm so the final number would have been 272hp/232ft-lbs

I'd love to take one for a spin. I drove the 160 BHP 2.0 and loved it. I didn't have any issues with the way it revved but equally I never got the chance to drive the 1.5.

What this does do, in my mind, is make the 1.5 a bit pointless. Previously the choice was the mad revvy one or the more powerful one. Now it is choosing between the mad revvy one with 130 BHP or the mad revvy one with 190 BHP for very little extra cost.

NBFL passed it's MOT with no issues, cool.
Then fitted a strut brace that was at a very sensible price with a chap just 3 miles from where I live.

I've got the following going free if anybody would like for their own car.
Can bring it along to the OcUK HQ meet next month or you can collect form Coventry

RENOVO Soft Top reviver, cleaner and ultra proofer (bottles are about half full)
Genuine MK3 Mazda Car Cover (Have never had this out the bag)
MK3 2006 Head Unit
Full set of OEM MK3 2006 2.0L Springs

While I was just going to stick mine in my garage coverless while I attempt to kill it's rust, I don't mind throwing you some pennies for the cover :)

Who'd have thought having a long one would cause so many issues... I am of course talking about the 475mm cat on my late mk1 :o

It seems that my exhaust choices are IL Motorsport, custom or swap everything from the manifold back from an earlier car :(

I currently have the IL Motorsport option (fitted by the previous owner) and have rattly baffles like every other person who has one it would seem from searching the net. On the one hand it sounds a bit race car, but do loose baffles cause performance issues? I assume the thing could potentially be restricting the flow?

Its nearly hibernation time for my one so whatever I do it'll have to wait until next year but I'm thinking a trip to longlife exhausts to get one bent to shape might be the best option.

Been a bit of a while since I updated this thread on my MX5! Infact I think the last post was the purchase of it haha!

So far I've had it around 18 months, it went on a 3,000 mile, 6 country trip round Europe ending in camping at the Spa F1 including the Mrs (that was a tight fit for 3 weeks haha). The bag on the back really helped and I can vouch after a single solid drive from the UK to around Montpellier it was absolutely solid.

Before that the only mods I had one was moving to new discs and EBC Yellowstuff pads, these lasted 3 trackdays before one delaminated at Donnington - so I am currently debating to try another brand (although I've currently got another set of yellows on there as I had another trackday almost immediately)

Suspension was fairly urgent next, along with a new exhaust - the stock exhaust was hilariously quiet so that went in favour of a Scorpion exhaust. I've had these previously and was really impressed with them and although they offer a bit more noise, they don't drone which was important for me. I fitted MeisterR ZetaCRD+ (has the aly top mounts, although they seem to have stopped making this now).

Since then it it has been on quite a number of trackdays and I've been really impressed with just how solid it is. My 350Z struggled on track with temperatures and really felt like it couldn't handle particularly long sessions. The MX5 after 30mins makes me think 'yeah I guess I should come in' *kicks the tyres ... goes back out* haha. Now we are getting to the end of the good weather I plan to take the car off the road, replace the ARBs with something a little stiffer, and also I'm about to order a rollcage as I've finally found a company who supply one which fits under the hard top roof. It isn't quite as high as the other ones but will offer a little more protection!

Oh and I've added to Rota Blitz wheels, mainly as I wanted slightly wider tyres (cheaper) and preferred a slightly different offset. These are ET40 and IMO look perfect, the standard wheels really sit in, and I don't want to use spacers. Now I'm running Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres - they are stupidly sticky, and almost make the car feel a bit too grippy so may downgrade to something a little less grippy for next time.

That's it on old wheels and suspension at Cadwell earlier in the year :)
