MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

Looks a nice example that; your first purchase for it needs to be a new alloy centre cap, as its missing one!

I've had hardly any comments about my mx5 being girly, the mk3 looks less feminine than most mk2s which helps along with mine being bright red and lowered.

Ah yes, I have already put that on my list! She isn't sure where it's gone... Other than that it's pretty immaculate though, small scuff on front wing where she thinks someone might have 'car parked' her and not said anything but like new other than that.

I think they're great looking cars, especially with the roof down, it's probably just because my 'Stormy Blue' actually looks more like purple most the time. I guess it depends what angle you're looking at it from!

Indeed, although be wary of the dirty looks you'll get. Driving home in about 3 degrees in a t-shirt after playing two hours of tennis, gets quite a lot of head shakes.

I got "He must be freezing!" a couple of times driving home late one night in mid September! With the heater set about 30% of the way I was the perfect temperature in a shirt. Most people seem to think that a convertible is all about 30'C in the mid day sun but a nice summers evening is my favourite time for roof off driving.

Best drive I've had in years was a late nighter with a friend of mine following in his Z4M, clear night, empty country roads, 15'C... fantastic!

Last few days ive had the hood down, today was pretty dam nice (yesterday morning was quite nice too with the sun creeping over the trees and hedgerows)

Pic does a pretty good job of what it felt like to drive to to work yesterday (at least in my head) :o

Quite a few comments about you must be cold (really only the hands) to me atm it seems more odd seeing other convertibles with the hood up, just the one with it down, slightly different league to the MX5 though (Ferrari California, which seemed like a giant as it drove past) I may go with 'no rain, no roof' mentally for daytime driving... havent been out at night with the roof down yet.

Next week should have the heater re-connected, so my cold hands maybe a thing of the past.

Then ive got the rear window to sort... and then a ashtray replacement plus cover for under the steering wheel and then who knows (only bad thing i can foresee is you can always spend money on it)

Love it :D

This looks quite interesting. http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=29075

Ive just written to them to see what costs and options are for getting this fitted to my wives MX5! :D

A few weeks ago I was taken as a passenger around Donington:

4Tamrch.jpg

Roddison Motorsport MX5 race car with the BBR Stage 3 Turbo and forged engine, 335bhp. Needless to say on a cold and damp November track, much of the lap was very sideways. Nothing went past it all day, although Paul Roddison does drive like a lunatic :D

If you are looking at costs then speak to Paul Roddison as well as BBR, he can supply and fit the kits too - based in Sheffield, nice guy to deal with. I'd love the turbo kit but I feel the final price is somewhat high, higher than most who want a turbo Mk3 would be willing to pay.

Myself, I am due to finish my MX5 Mk3 engine mods on 31st January. AEM intake (fitted), Milltek cat back with sports cat (fitted), next up is a Racing Beat manifold and Ecutek remap, should see me to 180-185bhp with a much more fitting soundtrack for a sports car, this is an equivalent set of mods to BBRs own 'Super 180' or Roddisons 'RMS185' packages.

The biggest changes come with drivability rather than outright power, the original throttle maps are very conservative for the 3 lowest gears, this is to save the traction control from kicking in but also provide a greater level of 'safety'. The map removes these so the whole car feels much more urgent, quicker to give you its power, as well as the 20-25 gain in peak bhp and torque.

Bought some tyres through Blackcircles with fitting booked for this morning after final decided on what tyres to go for. Never got there.

Lowered my windows a bit to clear the moisture of them and the passenger electric window cable decide to snap, dropping the window past its lowest position.

After taking the door apart and finally finding the cause of the problem, I was able to order a replacement kit from mx5 parts. Fingers crossed for a delivery on Tuesday so I can fit the new kit on Boxing Day.

Posted in the Show us your motors thread but it lives here too :p

Just got 4 new tyres on it after a pothole disaster so an ideal day to test it! Have to say the rainsport 3s have done admirably so far.

Mine was screwed in but the beauty of black means the holes are easy to hide :P Wheels are BMW e30 ones, not the lightest but cheap :D

My plate is on one of those chunky black plastic mounts and under the edge it has scratched the paint so I'd have two (or more) screw holes in a rectangular frame of scratched paint :p

I thought they were the stock MX5 BBS items. Look great though.

And this was the first one I had and what it ended up like :(

the picture that made me want it

it was a sport iS edition

and then I lost the back end in the wet 2 weeks after having it :(

amazingly I escaped with a small bump on the head and went to work immediately after the crash as it was on the way to work that it happened, the most embarrassing thing was my superiors driving past and seeing it and me at the side of the road with a copper. nothing came of it apart from a hefty claim as I wrote off the oncoming newish fiesta. safe to say I now drive very cautiously in the wet
