MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

I bought the Renovo one from MX5Parts but haven't used it yet due the work being done.. anyone want to warn me off it before I try? :)

One thing I will say about the soft top proofing products, try not to get any on the rear window, if you get overspray on and it dries its a pain in the ass to get off...!

Need some input please, my mk2.5 has been increasingly difficult to start over the last week, it turns over fine but takes longer to crank before it fires, and may now take 3 or 4 attempts. Plugs and cables were changed recently and the battery seems ok.
What would this be? Fuel pump?
Thanks in advance

Got a couple of snaps in between rain showers.

Got rid of the fogs & finally found some white sidelights (still may go back to standard but at least these are free of any horrible blue tint).

Since my last post...

Black grill installed, along with the jaws grill, Chrome side mirrors, Clear side-light/indicator units, Stainless steel wipers, Chrome quarter light.

And a few other bits n bobs I've forgot about already!.

When we pulled up.

This one shows the grill, side mirrors, wipers well.

On this one you can see the exhaust I managed to get nice & new looking (stripped off a load of horrible paint on it to reveal stainless steel goodness :)! )

A little later after a short walk.

I assume the problem didn't start after changing the plugs or cables?

Nope, that was a couple of months ago and its been fine since. The only things that happened just before it started playing up were 1) using a bottle of injector cleaner; and 2) had a guy try with an ODB scanner to program a new key, but he couldn't get into the car anyway.

Its gone to the garage now, but I know how the dealer like to turn my car away if they dont fancy doing a job, as "its an import".. so I am a little concerned.

Hi Guys

Whats the general consensus on Racing beat products?

looking at the exhaust and induction kit at the moment. cant seem to find any better alternatives?

what are the 'go to' cat back and induction kits for the mk2.5?

Well, from word & mouth the stuff on mx5parts seems to be pretty good.

Exhaust - http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/stainless-steel-exhaust-parts-dual-exit-mk225-p-1515.html

Induction - http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/filtercharger-mk225-p-345.html

I know a couple of people with the exhaust & they love it (pretty loud mind).

The mx5 parts exhausts for the mk2 are meant to be a bit loud, perhaps obnoxiously so....few people on mx5 nutz had them and got rid. There are a few videos on YouTube, they all souns very loud but not especially tuneful to me. Nicely made but a bit over the top if you ask me, may not be so bad if you keep the cat in place but I'd be wary.

I'd look at Racing Beat or the Cobalt exhausts (available from Moss Europe). Cobalt stuff is very popular in the US, and certainly well thought of on the forums. Racing beat is only a bit louder than stock, well made and quality items (im getting their manifold for the mk3). Both will add a sportier sound but stay fairly subtle

My vinyl hood has shrunk and my front seals are filling up with water! Sad times... Mohair should be a better replacement and shouldn't shrink? Expensive though :O.

Depending where you are, you can get a mohair fitted in Swansea (Jack Smith iirc) for about £300. Unsurprisingly they're rather busy so might not be an option if you need it done quickly.

My colleague suggested the fuel cleaner flushed all the gunk onto the plugs and that may be the problem, I dont have the car with me to check just now, but does that sound feasible? I hope thats all it is.

...
I have a MX5Parts Stainless Steel single exit on my Mk2 1.8iS with standard cat and I think it is great. Believe me the last thing I would want is a loud and obnoxious exhaust....I'm no teenager anymore! IMHO it's a big improvement on the stock exhaust and has a nice tone to it :)

Loved the Racing Beat cat back on my MK1, not obnoxious at all. Gave the car the sound it deserved from the factory and the build quality is too good. They're a bit heavy really for what they are but will outlive the car in my opinion.

Are jota making parts available separately then?

200bhp sadly seems relatively hard to release from a stock mk3/3.5. I'm led to believe the engine mods include revised internals, its not just bolt on exhaust parts, drop in cams and a remap...

Should be.

It's reputedly more than mentioned but Jota couldn't be specific at the time, so we had to run with what they could confirm.

Love to dyno one.
