MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

yeah ive redone the ebay ad and told the guy pestering with 1400 that im not interested at that price.

he got very shirty with me.

I told him he sounded like mike brewer.

ive put it on ebay for 2500 but said that will include the hardtop if asking is met.

its well priced for a mk2.5 on there and the cheapest arctic on there by miles too.

hopefully something will happen in the next 30 days.

I've had my mk3.5 nearly 9 months now, and despite having the geo done by Blink, it still feels a little skittish/unsettled at times. When going motorway speeds the front can feel v light, especially with any gusting wind, that it just doesn't feel planted at times. I keep thinking coilovers would help - what have people tried/recommend here? I know MeisterR seem v popular on Nutz. Dumb question - everything has a life, so how long are coilovers expected to last?

The vagueness and drifty feeling at the front will probably be the increased camber if they did that, as with everything, you compromise in some way.

You'll only see the benefit of the camber to make up for the negative points when you're giving it beans through corners and the geometry changes. I know, i had the same issue!

But believe me, having just got back from my first track day in the 5, if you can live with the day to day inconvenience, it's worth it when the car comes into it's own.

FWIW i have Meister Rs on too, great things IMO, you can dial them right back and it wallows like standard, or mine are at 27 out of 32 stiffness for the track today and it properly tightens it up to almost teeth chattering on bad roads!

I went to see it at the local dealer as it's round the corner and they had a little event on, it's better looking in the flesh IMO, I'm waiting for the new car tax to have been paid and BBR to have got their hands on it before i consider one though.

Wesimmo thanks mate i think 100% im going to get one of these from all the pics i have seen its one of the best looking cars out there at the min so if its even better in real should be really good with a bit of tunning

You'll like it a lot then, my mate might have put his money down there and then had his wife not been there!

BTW, I've not watched this all yet, but we did a (mainly) MX5 track day at Teesside Autodrome today, cracking little track for the car and in these conditions.....

Mines the dark blue GJ03 UBN if it appears anywhere...

Yeah thats what I thought but admiral can't find nowt via reg and have a list the length of your arm of different ,1.6s wanted me to specify what it was.

So, I've got a whine coming from what sounds like the front left of the car. It goes away when the engine is over 2000 rpm but I should probably get it fixed. It's getting louder.

Is this likely to be the timing belt? Car is on 70,000 or so miles and hasn't had a belt change AFAIK.

Mk2.5, 03 plate.

Timing belts don't tend to whine before they snap, the engine is also pretty central in the engine bay with the cam belt pulleys at the front end of the engine (covered) so its not likely to give a noise from the front left!

I would be more inclined to suspect a front wheel bearing or an aux belt tensioner or something., but saying that, is it coming from within the engine bay specifically, can you pin down where it is coming from any better? Its hard to diagnose otherwise :p

Would recommend a timing belt swap too if its never been done, at that age the belt is probably past its best (rubber will perish with age regardless of mileage), if it does snap not only will you break down but you will almost certainly need a new engine afterwards :(

May have just impulse purchased another MX5 NA SE.... It's in unbelievably good condition but the MOT has just expired... pics to follow tomorrow after I pick it up and the garage assesses the damage :D

So, passed the MOT with zero advisories bar a number plate light being out. It's covered 3000ish miles since 2007, been dry stored, has a few choice mods which are worth more than I paid (exhaust, manifold, airbox, alarm, strut braces, braided hoses etc).... but officially back in the fold with a car that is identical to my last one!.

That's a beauty! I should be picking up my NB Jasper Conran edition on the 18th! I'm bloody excited. I'm going to see it tomorrow, but I think I've already made my mind up. It's owned by my cousin so I trust that it's in good nick anyway.

The bodywork on his car is fine, but in terms of the engine, could you please let me know what sort of checks I should be doing to see how it is?
