MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

very nice, loved my (platinum) conran, unfortunately i ended up having to change the wheels as one was buckled and they are nigh on impossible to get replacements. £1725 sounds like a good price, can't believe how much these have dropped.

That looks really tidy. I want your gearnob, steering wheel and handbrake lever. The polished ally/stainless looks no much nicer than black plastic.

Not a fan of the luggage rack though

Edit: I paid £950 for my early Mk2 with 105k miles last Xmas. Body work needed a little attention though

Hah well funnily enough, I'm not a big fan of the gearknob so at some point you may well be able to have that!! I'd really like a leather one; it's a bit small. The luggage rack is not great. I'm not sure that I'll ever use it. My cousin said he's not used it once in the time that he's owned the car.

£950 is bloody good. The bodywork on this isn't perfect but I think I can fix all of it very easily. Rubber hammer, unbend a couple of things and it'll be great.

I may have paid slightly over the odds for it, I'm not sure, but I wanted us both to get a fair deal.

The gearbox is a tad clunky on this actually, anyone have any suggestions? Also, has anyone installed remote locking on their MK2? I really want it.

There are very few things I've ever been more excited for tbh. I'm getting it on the 18th of October (next Saturday), and I may well take Monday off. I already have the Tuesday off as that's my birthday.

Wife's car goes in for a service at a local garage tomorrow, first time I've not take it to Mazda, which I am fine with, frankly, as she doesn't want to change the car. So I have arranged to have these fitted :D

Isn't it great when you get a call from the garage.....

Would you like us to replace the rear tyres so it can pass the MOT?

Wait, what, it's in for a Service?

Yea, but we did a history check and the MOT ran out in May...thought we should put one on it for you.

Love wife's cars, if I don't check....no one checks :(

So new brake discs and pads, 2 new tyres, full service and hopefully that's it.....but somehow I suspect not.

I fitted Vmaxx Coilovers last night but they are utterly horrendous. Bouncy and rock solid.

Looking to either buy HSD's or MeisterR's.

Car will never be on track, just want to go lower and still have comfort.

Anyone have any recommendations?

I had one of the first sets of MeisterR's when I had my 5 and they were brilliant day to day. I drove it all over without much fuss. I had it set quite low and stiff with a full fast road alignment. I was running 15x8 wheels with a very slight stretch too.

My current 08 Civic has a harsher ride than the 5 did (partly thanks to the 18's and low profiels on the Civic). I do miss that car :(

Haha, typical. But the brakes should be a lovely upgrade for the road.

I remember my rear brakes going on my current car before I had really looked into when thing were due and realised the MOT was due that day also. Lucky.

I have to say though, no MOT since May! Clearly these things aren't that well enforced as you would like to beleive. Although I can only assume if I was a day late Id have the book thrown at me, such is my luck.

There is zero excuse for the MOT not being on the car, my wife didn't keep a note and put 12 months tax on 20 days before it ran out. It will be fixed today, just annoying as I HATE to have any of my cars not above board.

I am looking forward to seeing how the brakes perform. Frankly the standard brakes are superb, one of the real strengths of the car, but I wanted a full disc/pad swap having his 60K miles so felt a little upgrade wouldn't go a miss. I had yellow stuff pads on last time and they were really good, but very dusty, so the greens have better dust control I believe.

Will be interesting to see your findings - green stuff are reknowned for being pretty awful in most applications that i've seen.

To be fair this is a road car and I shall bed them in this evening properly to ensure that this doesn't cause an issue. The yellow stuff pads were very good, I mean really good, but they don't last as long as the OEM pads and create a significant amount of dust. The MX5 has always been a well braked car and it has a significant advantage over many cars in that it's relatively light, so tends not to require massive brakes to stop well. As I said the OEM pads and discs are more than up to the job, but I was browsing a website and fancied a change. We will see I guess, but I shall take it out for a cross country run this evening and see what happens. If you don't hear back you can assume they were REALLY bad :D

I have the cosworth streetmaster pads on my mk3, fantastic for the road, plenty of bite, even lasted a short track session at Donington without issue.

Had greenstuff on EG6 they ware OK Red stuff on DC2 well those things are not for Hard drivers..... Paint cough fire at Donington :D

I've had Yellow Stuff and Blue Stuff.

The yellows were destroyed by a session at Curborough, the blues lasted many sessions at various tracks, plus hard road driving.

Always heard bad things about the greens though...

I run red stuffs on my race car....no problems. Yellows stuffs on my wife's car no problems so will report back on the greens. If they prove useless, which frankly I dont expect for a minute then I will bin them, as I will the discs if they prove useless, which again I dont expect.

Well I've collected the car and run a couple of heat cycles through the brakes, far too early to make a judgement call on their quality. Brake feel is that of a car with brakes that need bedding in. Have another longer journey this afternoon so hopefully I will be closer to bedded in brakes then and can make a judgement. Discs look good though.

Question.

I have the car booked into Centre Gravity next month (soonest he could fit it in!) for a full realignment as the garage felt that was out. I didn't want the factory settings on the car which they offered to put on as these are not as good as those I had. I am considering getting the car tightened up and lowered to remove the gaps above the wheels. What are peoples view on the best suspension for a Mk3.5 MX5? I am happy to pay proper money but I'd like to get dampers and springs replaced as we are keeping the car, hand them to Chris Franklin, fitted and then set up for road use.

Wife really loves the car so having decided to keep it I am getting stuff refreshed. I am also going to get the engine breathed on soon, but not going turbo, rather a more powerful NA engine with higher rev limit, with the associated rebuild and strengthening.

Will be due brakes on my mk2 soon. What's the general consensus on pads/discs.

Mostly road use possibly a track day or two a year.

Pagid discs and EBC Bluestuff? With some decent fluid?

I've ran Pagid plain discs and yellowstuff pads for the last 4 years on mine and never had any complaints on road from cold, to hard track sessions (other than my white wheels don't stay white for too long!)

Perfect, that's one ticked off my list now on to exhaust shopping for my birthday.

After a decat center section but as much as I'd love the racing beat its a bit expensive.

Saw your post on Nutz about your issues with the ME221, glad they sorted it promptly for you

Yellow stuffs work really well as you say but god they are dusty
