MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

My 3.5 passed its MOT today, advisories were all 4 tyres just above the limit and a light oil misting on one of the shocks.

I knew the treads were getting low and already had it booked into black circles to have 4 Khumo KU39s fitted next week, but what's this misting? Is it the sign of a failing shock absorber?

Misting is a sign the shock is leaking and due to fail, yes. It may last till the next MOT but you'll know it's gone when you hear it knocking most likely. So be prepared to get both front shocks sorted at some point soon (replace in pairs as if ones going ones on it's way usually.

Got to drive it for the first time in 2.5 weeks (wife giving birth to our firstborn gets in the way) and remembered why I bought it, even without the increase in power that I want to deliver by means of turbo it's still a fun little car to throw around!

Turbo Mx5s are exceptionally good at bringing out your inner hooligan.

I can get in the work van or the MINI and drive like any other normal person on the road. Jump in the MX5 and before I've even gotten to then end of the road I can't help but drive it like I've stolen it

I drive my S3 slower than I drive the '5 at least around country roads, just down to the roadholding of the '5 with AD08R's!

Annoyingly for me we get some nice weather and mine is Sat looking sorry for itself

Every time I drive my five remotely fast or have a bit of a slide I end up doing it in front of the police! Give up driving it for now otherwise I'm gonna get banned

Love the idea of a turbo, however I simply never seem to have an opportunity to even make use of it's power even in stock form. Just happy for you guys that you get the opportunity.

Ive driven mine 500 Miles if that since I turbo converted it months ago! I actually had to un seize my alternator a couple of weeks back to start it!

For something that's daily used/occasional spirited drive they're best at the 180-200 horsepower region. Even if you aren't using all of the power very often the extra lump of torque in the low/mid range makes them so much more effortless to drive.

Part of me wishes I'd have stuck at 200bhp a lot longer than i did, having daft power is great but you can actually enjoy using the power for a decent length of time, at 250+ it's all too easy to be doing 3 figure speeds by the end of an average dual carriage way slip road.

Mines done 600 miles since May, 300 of those were a weekend away where it spend most of its time at 70 on the M6

New front pads fitted and brake fluid changed. Went for standard Pagid pads for about £35 from a Eurocarparts sale (always seems to be a sale on there).

Also gave the calipers 2 coats of silver Hammerite smooth :)
