MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

Not really sure what it is, couldn't make out any obvious branding. I've replace it with a Exedy clutch, new one only has 4 springs though.

I just find it funny it was absolutely fine for the 2 years it was supercharged, then it went when it was back on stock power

NB1 1.8 sports
NB1 Special editions with a 6 speed came with a 3.9 (10AE, RS etc)
Early NB2s are a 3.6 torsen and later NB2s are a 3.6 Fuji

There isn't a huge difference between 5 speed/4.10 and 6 speed/3.63 but the 5 speed combo 1-3 are slighly longer

On the NB cars, all sports have a diff and generally, many of the special editions but not all eg I don't think the Trilogy edition had a diff.

Torsens would have been fitted up to 2002 I think. 2003 onwards would have been Fuji. That means early 2.5 would have a Torsen but not later ones. Hard to tell by number plate as it depends on when the car was built and how long it took before it was registered.

I think I will be on the look out for either 10th aniversary/Icon or a Early MK2.5 sport. Worse case is I can just get a new rear diff for the 2.5 as they are only a couple of hundred.

Don't forget the JDM RS model too.

Probably the best one to go for, different intake cam, 7500rpm factory rev limit. 6 speed but only a 3.9 Torsen.

Oh and the funky rotated clocks too

An import, IMO, is the best option for a Mk2. Get one that's not been in the country too long and you've got a good chance of it still being rot free. The 3.9 diff makes it feel a lot more lively than the 3.6 which feels lazy in comparison. Plus an import is the only way to get one in the best colour, chaste white :)

This is the ideal scenario. A MK2.5 RS would be the best option but they are rare as hens teeth. a 10th anniversary/Icon is basically a NB1 RS and they are readily available.

Tbf even the Non-JDM NB engines seem happy enough being spun to 7500rpm too. My rev limit has been there for the last two and a half years and doesn't stop making power until 7200

Just had confirmation that my Nevada has been pronounced a write off.
Now considering the follow on vehicle. Have three potentials narrowed down, a red one, blue one and a black one. Let's see how they pan out.

Anybody in the North East who wants to try the new MX5 at Croft next Friday?

I've got an invite but I'm on holiday, happy to pass on details of an alternative person as the original date was cancelled due to lack of numbers.

Pic from Saturday :)

Is there a way to tell if the car has the Torsen diff or the Fuji diff ?

The reason I ask is that lets say a Sport, if it is registered on an 03 plate, could have either I imagine, depending on when it was built hence wondering if there is any way to tell.

A Fuji will spin both wheels in the same direction off the floor being a clutch type. A torsen will act like a open diff.

Thanks for the replies and link but to be honest, I am still not sure how you can tell when viewing a car to purchase where you will not be able to get it off the floor for example.

Is there not an easier way :)

If I did take a jack, what should I expect?

On a Fuji, when turning the rear wheel, both wheels turn but on a Torsen only one wheel turns ?

Tried to drop you a message but was unable to send? I’d be really interested in taking your place as I’m off work on Friday and my original plans have moved to Saturday so now got the day free.

If you could drop me a PM or email via Trust that’d be great :)
