MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

Reg Checking shows mine as only 125Bhp, Always has done. Always thought it was strange at first, obviously put the figures in wrong at some point and played copy paste.

Would anyone know if £5500 would get one into a 2.0 NC (with LSD) with a folding hardtop? Or would it be a bit of a dog

Is milage an issue on the NC?

I supercharged my NB @118k and it's now on about 130k having spent most of those additional miles on boost at high revs including track days.

I was wondering what must be wrong with that bottom one, as when I looked a couple of weeks ago with the distance set to cover the south east for cars with c. 50k they're wanting £7-8k for them, which I though was mad because I only paid £7k iirc (might have been £7.5).

5.5 seems very cheap/good value

Cars prices tend to be regional, I drove upto Newcastle for my Missus motor to save 4k over buying in Bristol and surrounding areas. Same for finding my mum a car, picked a load in her spec then did approx 800 miles viewing the faves in one day, Bit of a ball ache but again big savings.

Seems ti be a few for 6-7k that 5.5k sport is an outlier and worth a look, NC engine is robust but you won't know with any age if it's been run low on oil, they can use a bit hence the number with new engines, same risk with any secondhand car though, you never know what you've got until you own it.

For example I bought a low mileage nc1 47k, it use 1 litre per 1k miles oil wise, a friend has one that has 80k another with over 100k and doesn't use a drop. I 've done 30k in mine since I have had it, just keep it topped up and it's been pretty much faultless despite many weekends over the past 3yrs riding the limiter etc. and many championships won

BTW, I know someone who is selling a Winning Blue BBR200 Sport for 5.5k (Soft top) in Sussex, lot of car for the dough when you consider BBRs install cost is near that much, looked in nice condition too. I can put you in touch.

I'll drop him a mail and get him to put the details up, basically he put it up very cheaply on mighty5s and removed it as he realized he was undervaluing it and another car purchase he was looking at fell through, but I sent him a cheeky mail offering dough for his hard top, which I bought so I could cage mine :) he has since offered me the vehicle which is tempting as it's much tidier than mine and a Sport but my car ownerships are more like relationships and I struggle to get shot of mine, though came close when she failed MOT on rust.

EDIT- sent you a way of getting in touch through trust thingy.

How are the early NC's holding up with rust and general high miles?

I'm really thinking about getting an early 2.0 for track days, we had a 3 year old 2006 2.0 sport for a few years but it was a pretty new car with low mileage when we had it so no issues (think we sold it with 43k or something at about 6 years old)

I quite fancy the Mk3 for a bit more power and refinement compared to the early ones and hopefully less issues with rust?

Appreciated, sent :)

Obviously the older the car the more likely the issue, The mk3 (and in fact any Mazda) are susceptible, to a lesser extent than the older models but there is inadequate protection for our salty roads and some areas where water can be trapped, 12yr old unprotected steel no likey. Mine lives under a tree an is pretty much abandoned for a few months at a time in the off season, it has suffered because of this. How good the car is will depend on where it has been used.

Whilst I was up on mechanical maintenance, having owned lots of Italian cars looking for rust was not a thing, yes really, they are all galvanised and fairly well protected I guess due to historical rep and my Mazda could have been sorted if I had given it a second thought but this car was only ever a temporary learning tool so didn’t care about its condition…..it became less temporary the more I drove it :D

I intend to get her a new fancy dress at some point (GBS Zero) as a project so I am not too concerned
