I have been using this mouse since it launched but sadly now like all things its starting to break down and I have had random stops happening. This is of course unacceptable so I need to get a replacement for it. Now the reason why

I love the MX518 is because since I have hands that are like shovels (big hands) and it is a decently sized mouse,I don't have to claw grip the mouse but I can palm grip it. Now I have looked into replacements and the direct upgrade was the G400S but that has also been discontinued so I am left with a dilemma on what mouse I should buy. Of course I will be buying whatever mouse I decide on this week as I cannot go without a fully working mouse.

Any suggestions would be fantastic

I had the same dillemia, and ended up with a deathadder which is fine.

But after even a short use of a friends Roccat Kone XTD, that is the mouse I should've got.

Similar hand position, but then I don't really game all that much. It's definitely a better mouse, but my mx518 was very very old.

I won't buy another though, it feels too light espically compared to others I've now used.

Decided I'll look around and pick up the kone xtd since if its good enough for another former mx518 user who had the same dilemma then it will be ok for me, thanks Begbie

If I was more into gaming, I'd get one. I can't justify the cost though. I do believe there is some poor quality control issues though......

I know my mates on a 2nd one, but then he does have about 8 top tier mice lying about his room.

I went from a MX518 to my Zowie EC1, which is also nice and big, and really good for FPS gaming. Expensive though.

Same thing a couple of weeks back (IE. MX518 failing).

Bought a Deathadder chroma in the end and while it's a decent mouse.... I don't think it's worth the price.

While I'm now getting used to it. I find it:
a) Far to light.
b) A bit too small for my large (ish) hands.
c) I miss the thumb support on the MX518 BIG TIME.

c) is by far the biggest issue for me. As my right hand got a bit (a bit!) smashed up a couple of years back and now after only a short while with out that extra bit of support, it's more than a little painful. Got round this slightly, by attaching some gaffer tape (I jest not) doubled over slightly and attached to the underneath side of the mouse (left hand side). Allows me to rest my right thumb on it. Strange, but true.

I'll stick with the Deathadder though, if only because of how much it cost.

People sometimes forget how personal a mouse can be in use. Suits some, but others hate it.

With MX518 getting old and reading posts like these I added a decent similar wireless mouse and use it for normal use then switch to the 518 when gaming is needed. It'll be a sad day when mine finally dies.

I had the MX518 for a long while, good mouse with a very comfortable palm grip. I then went on to a Deathadder 2013, great for FPS games but it did take a little adjustment after the 518. Now I'm using Logitech's G502 Proteus Core, a recent switch, and I love it.

I replaced my MX518 with a G400S and it's great. However I am thinking of replacing it. I could get another one but they are kinda expensive now as not many places stock it since it has been discontinued.

I have read some great reviews about the Finalmouse 2015. Apparently it has one of the best sensors out there and a lot of pro cs:go players use it. Similar shape and size to the G400s. It is apparently very light. It does have some problems to do with the quality of the side buttons but they should fix them in a future revision. Might order one for Christmas.

Been out of games since 2007 BF2 PR Mod. But with Elite my childhood being redone I’ve been buying the odd game in steam ready for a new PC from OC. Highish end rig. Scary the price of Keyboards and mice these days. £150 for a keyboard etc amd £40-100 for a decent mouse. When my gaming mouse died I just got a spare Hp mouse as cheap as you get mouse out of work at the time. Its still going strong as it just get used for browsing much like the Nov 2004 build PC in daily use.

Interesting read above on your thought on things. I’ll have to look a lot more closely into this when I’m ready to get the new rig. Planning a Dayz, Cities S, CSGO etc and Elite for starters.

I got a G5 when my 518 died, which is ok, but then I don't game much any more. Any time I consider a replacement, I'm not impressed with the options.

I had a Mx518 for a very long time. Eventually replaced with a G700s about 6 months ago now I think, I'm very happy with it as a replacement. It has the same kind of feel to it. And the buttons are great. Battery life kinda sucks but it's a great mouse.

And afterwards I stripped my Mx518, cleaned it all out and it's like new again! Fixed a broken wire causing it to play up too. The scroll wheel has gone all sticky and stiff, had no click to it, hot soapy water bought it back to life though. Handy spare to use with my laptop.

Mine has started giving false double clicks on the left button. Going to perform open mouse surgery to swap the left button microswitch with the less used "forward" side switch. I would pretty much do anything to keep this mouse going.

I normally use a Razer naga which was great for wow but I haven't played that for ages and I've found that I just can't use the naga for fps games, the sensitivity seems to be all over the place and its way to twitchy.

So last night I dug out my old MX518 and what a difference, no stupid drivers to mess about with and it just felt right.. it's getting on a bit now though and although it hasn't had much use I think I'm going to get a new mouse instead of getting used to the MX again.

The zowie mentioned above looks good, what are the drivers like or does it not really need them, I hate really complicated drivers with thousands of settings which I never understand aka Razer...

ohh and whats the difference between the FX1 and FX2?
