MX700 Mouse not charging - help

My mouse has been flashing red at me all day, and I assumed that my boyfriend hadn't put it on charge properly last night. I put it on myself and left it for an hour, and when I came back it was still flashing, as was the bottom light (as if it wasn't sitting on the charger but was upright). I've checked the charger is plugged in properly, and tried moving the plug, but it's still doing the same.

Is there any way of checking whether it's the charger or the batteries that have gone? I've got some spare batteries in it just now, but I don't know how long they will last, and I don't want to keep replacing them.

Thanks,

Siobhan x

I'd first try to clean the contacts on both the mouse and charger - the gold bits - an eraser should do the job.

Had the same problem myself, charger had died for no apparent reason, and I never worked out a fix. At least the MX700 takes regular batteries so it's not so hard to charge them in a regular charger.

defo try cleaning the contacts, then try new batteries. i have had an mx700 used everyday for 4 years and have only thing i've had to do run the batteries all the way down and recharge from flat once a couple of times. charge lasted must longer between charges after that.

Remove the batteries. Replace the batteries. Charge the batteries.

Also try removing the batteries for 20 minutes+ before replacing them. This *may* help increasing the time the batteries keep their charge before the red blinking light comes on.

How long should normal batteries last? The ones that I've just taken out only ever lasted about 24 hours before I needed to recharge, so I'm a little concerned that I'll have to keep recharging these ones.

The batteries weren't totally dead, as I was still able to use the mouse for a couple of hours before I decided to put it on the charger, so it can't be that. I'll try cleaning the contacts and put the original batteries back in. I've been using it every day for 4 years, so I guess it could just be old age.

If I can't get the charger to work again, are there any other mice out there with a charger rather than normal rechargable batteries?

My MX700 mouse contacts melted a bit with the heat of charging and became recessed, just enough to break the contact. I had to scrape some melted plastic away from around the contact to make it connect properly. Worked fine after that.

Not sure if this is a common promlem though [J]

That is what happened to me, Logitech replaced my cordless mx desktop because of it.

Rechargeable batteries have a habit of losing their capacity over time so I wouldn't be surprised if they were dead. I replaced mine a few months ago and my mouse has been fine ever since.

Could that be the case if they hadn't run down though? As I said, I was still using the mouse with original batteries for a few hours after it refused to charge.

Maybe, maybe not. I had similar problems with mine for a few months before I changed the batteries. Sometimes the green light would come on and it would recharge and others times it would just sit there and do nothing. Taking out the batteries and putting them back in again helped on a few occasions but I knew my batteries were nearly dead because it wasn't taking very long to recharge.

The only advice I can give is buy some new rechargeable batteries and give them a try. If that doesn't work contact Logitech and see what they say. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Howdy,
Iv had my MX700 for about 7 years now and for the last 4 of those the batteries have not wanted to charge so Iv had to use another charger. This is a common problem with these mice and its due to the poor conductors on the mouse. Only way to solve the problem is to thoroughly clean the conductor pads or replace them. Hope this has helped.

Mine does the same, I just wipe the contacts with my fingers, and scrape the underside contacts with my nail.

Make sure you use NiMH batteries not Ni Cad.

If it flashes red while in the charger just twiddle the batteries in the mouse around it works then, at least mine does, had it about 4 years and never changed them.

Ok, I took the batteries out and they charged in a normal charger. I've tried cleaning all 4 contacts, and it still isn't charging at all, so I think the charger is broken. The original batteries are working, but they only last around 24 hours, which really isn't practical.

Can someone suggest a mouse similar to the MX700, with its own charger instead of normal batteries, as I really can't be bothered switching them out regularly.

Thanks.

The MX700 came with a 5 year warranty so if you contact Logitech they will replace it FOC.

Do I need proof of purchase or anything? It was bought as a birthday present by my ex who I don't speak to any more, and I very much doubt that he still has the ocuk receipt.

I'm sure Logitech will just send you a new one without to many questions as there customer service is excellent.
IIRC they may ask for the defective unit to be returned or just they'll ask you to cut the USB Plug from the cable, but that's about it. :)

I just called and they're sending out a new power supply to try. If that doesn't work, she said they'd replace the whole unit (not sure if that means charger or mouse and charger).

Mine does this from time to time. On mine its the lead of the power supply, I move it a bit and it seems to pick up.

I've put better batteries in my mouse. They're only AA rechargeables, so get some 2700mah's in there and you wont have to worry about charging it so often.
