You might want to uninstall the Nvidia drivers and run DriverCleaner Pro first. ;)

i did that already but that is irrelevant seeing as there is absolutely nothing on the screen even during post dont u think? :(

Oh, I took it literally when you said "just took out my 7800 and stuck in my new 1800 xtx." There's a slight chance it still might not POST if you leave the Nvidia drivers in, by the way.

In that case, make sure the monitor leads are all secure etc. and make sure that the BIOS is set to boot graphics from the PCI-E slot (PGM?) You never know.

Failing that, I dread to think about the fact that it could be D.O.A. :(

I don't blame you at all. I am sure there will be someone else along shortly with some suggestions, but I've never had any trouble with graphics cards so my list of troubleshooting options is pretty short.

I'd just wait for someone else and give OCuk a ring in the morning.

You can't make a judgement about a whole company from one bad experience with a graphics card, sometimes it's just an unfortunate fact that poo happens.

Speak to OCuk on the phone tomorrow, they'll probably have you RMA it and send back a brand-spanking new and 100% functional card to replace it.

yeah i know but its still upsetting :(

I've tried everthing still no luck, do these cards draw a lot more power from the psu? because i think there is a power issue with my pc anyways.

Ive been thinkin about gettin a new psu but the spending must stop, so if they test the ati card to be ok i'll just have to keep the 7800 until i can afford a new gfx card aswell as a psu.

Have you tried resetting the CMOS?

Is it not the refresh rate, or a resolution setting that the monitor doesn't like, have you got your monitor drivers installed, can you try another monitor, have you tried the cable in the other DVI etc...

Its possible that the card is working fine, as the rest of the system boots up. Ifits anything like my X800, monitor it self doesnt work on dvi untill the ati drivers are loaded. Only problem is you cant see anything to get them installed. If possable can you hook up a vga connection to the new card and see what happens ? or maybe remove the nv drivers while the nv card is in and install the ati ones. It will probably fail, but when it says to reboot, turn off and put the ati card in and hopefully the drivers will eventually initialise and show the new card comming alive. Note: Im under asumption that dvi to dvi is in use.

I have had problems with when certain graphics cards are inserted the motherboard suddenly starts defaulting to pci graphics over agp or pci-e

Track down a cheap pci based simple vga card and stick it in to see if you can get anywhere. If not, well i dunno, its an SLI motherboard so try having both cards in under, you should get the bios coming up on one of them. Dont worry about the psu... those can take 2 7800gtx's under load.

If he has no monitor output during post - then it cant be a driver issue, as none are loaded at that point.

I've tried all the things suggested, its just like there is no signal being sent to my monitors at all :(

Even if it did work the cooler is so big i cant plug my front audio connections into the motherboard as they are directly underneath it!

Doesnt look like i'll be switching to ATI anytime soon... maybe on my next full build.

Did i mention it was LOUD! lol
