My 2 Litre Escort GTi

The reason why the rear looks wrong is becuase the original design of the RSAP rear bumper - for RSAP kitted Mondeos - was such that the lower part of the bumper lined up with the sideskirts.

With the Escort GTi, however, the Sideskirts are of a different design and a different height so you get the awkward look of a bumper far lower than the side of the car :(

James, do they do replica ST24 sideskirts? If so, considered those? Might help a bit with the bumper.

A lot lighter?

Escort is around 1150kg and a Mondeo 1240kg so I wouldnt class that as a lot lighter.

If the 3dr GTi looks much better then why did you make your escort look like a mondeo instead of an Escort Gti?

Also, the superior handling on the Mondeo and equipment specification more than makes up for this.

I appreciate what you have done to your car and obviously you mustlove it, which I think is great. But really, you could have bought a Mondeo and had roughly the same appearance, same power but more kit and better handling.

Not sure on the exact weights so couldn't comment but I do know parkers rate the mondeo GLX 2.0 to do 60 in 8.7 secs and another escort gti owner with the same conversion ran a 7.7 0-60 at santa pod, 1 Second faster, 2 Less doors...

I'm guessing you own a mondeo from your signiture and are obviously quite "mondeo-proud" which is nice and brings a sense of joy and happiness to my heart, but as much as you love your mondeo's I love my escorts and as I said previously... Horses for courses.

@ Big Chris - ALMFAO

@ Fox - Don't think they do mate, it doesn't look *THAT* out of place in the flesh but im going to see how the M3 skirts they do line up with the bumpers but only thing is.. M3's are designed for bmw's not fords!!

@ Smiley Man - Why does it make your blood boil? You don't seem like a very smiley man to me if something so small makes your blood boil!!! (Joking)

It could work though - I've often noticed how the regular E36 sideskirts look similar to the RSAP Mondeo ones, so height wise you might be ok. It depends how faithful a copy the bumper is, as its obviously smaller becuase the Escort is smaller isnt it?

I think the rear bumper goes wel with the car, not too keen on the front bumper though.

I think you should consider wheels that are not 17's though, howabout some 13" weller steelie's?? ;) Hardcore stuff...

What are the lights on the rear? Please not lexus?

Woo i love the escort!!

You have a streetfighter font bumper? (i dont like it!)

The original styling of the gti is nicer in my opinion.

Or all standard with the st24 type bumber, otherwise i think it looks a bit mish mash!

The rear will look better with the bumper re-adjusted like you said.

Oh, try and get a rear spoiler with break lights too, they look cool.

Does your car have air con?

I have to agree with Lopez, the front looks great, but the back doesnt look quite as good, loving the look though, i would just need to do summit about the back if it was mine:)

Maybe you can get under 7 seconds if you weld up your doors and get in and out the rear hatch...

Those alloys are nasty!

Sell them to me please ;)

Tesla, I want to get a 2.0 Mondeo engine into mine, but I certainly don't want a Mondeo.

Sorry buddy, but IMO it just looks a bit messy, nothing seems to flow. The standard GTi looks pretty good. That just looks........awkward.

You could have had my engine for free. I did offer it on here. It's gone now though :(

Also, I dont own a Mondeo. I did but a van rear ended me at around 35-40mph when I was stationary and made a "bit" of a mess of it so it's in car heaven.

Currently looking for another though.

I wasnt having a go at your car, just wondered why you have stuck a load of mondeo stuff on it instead of buying a mondeo. I now know why, so it's around 1-1.5secs faster to 60 than normal.

Do you use the same gearbox with the mondeo lump or use a mondeo gearbox too?

At least we can agree that radiant red is the best colour :D

I think it looks good - a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Totally unrelated, but a mate of mine used to own a metro GTI. Used to outrun most cars at the traffic lights - was absolutely terrifying to travel in as a passenger.

Are you serious?

It has 100bhp, 0-60 of around 9 seconds and top speed of ~110mph. Do you honestly consider that sort of 'performance' terrifying?
