ok little update, well sort of

got a few pictures to me today so thought id share them.

when they popped up the first thing i thought was 'hold joseph and his technicoloured car!! haha

one thing im happy about is the shut lines on the panels, one thing i wanted was it almost to have a factory race team look to it instead of looking like its been attacked by halfords, hence the modified original front bumper(rear bumper will be done when i build my diffuser)

it should be ready for paint now but the big thing for me is i dont want any cutting, grinding or welding doing once its been painted so the intercooler and rad are being modified with brackets etc now before paint.

Ive requested the outlet of the intercooler has a 4inch pipe so when i go to 100mm throttle body in the future if i go drag racing its setup ready for me, in the mean time ill just use a 4in to 3in silcone reducer

anyway, here are a few pics, you can see how much wider it is

its all about deciding what you want to do with your life.

for me its cars, always has been, nothing else has really interested me, so this vehicle will allow me to execise that hobby whenever i like.

and dont worry, i blink 3 times every time i put my hands in my pockets, thats why all my panels are GRP and not carbon

Liking cars is one thing but it is the mental block of A) Spending a lot of money that you're never going to see back and B) Knowing that this is the right car to be spending that money on that always gets me.

the way ill look at it is this, when its up to full power, the amount of prep and high standard of the vehicle means that if i ever come to sell it then it will hold pretty strong money(circa £15k) so in theory i wont be massively out of pocket.

i decided on this car because of a few reasons.

it can be made very light
it can take massively wide tyres
its very aerodynamic
the engine can be taken to 1000bhp
it was the best handling car to ever come out of japan(well equal to nsx)
its different, not something you see on the roads everyday
being rwd it has plenty of different uses, plus it will keep me entertained compared to 4wd vehicle
if i break the engine its very cheap to fix
parts for upgrades are very cheap

overall i couldnt find a better car for what i wanted, though i think learning to drive this monster is going to be a steep learning curve after driving around in fiat estate for 7 months!

You are one crazy mofo but, fair play. Car looks like awesome fun to drive.

probably a bit daft asking yourself but have you any thoughts on diffuser height.

i always thought the higher the diffuser is(relative to the floor) makes it less effective per pund of air, but i have seen a few hill climb cars in germany running them quite high up, with long vertical strakes back down to the floor

im trying to decide whether to run it pretty high up...ie cut out the rear bumper now i have no fuel tank in the way or to run it under the bumper with a low rake angle.

i have been reading up and 10degrees seems to be a common mention, then 15-20 if its properly optimised and 30 for you f1 guys.

rotors cheaper then pistons I guess

Making it (frontal area) wider worsens that but whats its cd factor compared to a modern car

How high will this car sit from the tarmac?

no need to buy forged pistons, rods, aftermarket cams, valves, crank etc

the cd is 0.29 and a frontal area of 1.69sqm on a standard car.

the car will run a flat floor and on the top speed run be pretty much as low as i can get it without bottoming out.

the diffuser will stick out past the bumper by about 3-4inches to help against air grabbing onto the back of the car as it exits

also all shut lines will be taped and no wing will be used

im thinking the extra 25mm each side on the front wings will be offset by the car being 80mm lower to the ground

then it will just be a track/race car, the larger arches are so i can get some decent width tyres on it to improve mechanical grip

Is that a stock front bumper with the sidelights and oil cooler passages bored out into one?

If so, then good idea!! The stock 92-98 spec bumper vents only cover about 50% of each cooler.

yes it is, good thing about the original bumper is its fitment and also flexability compared to fibreglass after market ones

ill be running one giant single cooler one side and then put an airfilter in the other side, havent decided what size im going to use yet, probably 44 row

Would need the dimensions of the diffuser really, also if your floor isnt totally flat[or tuned] the diffuser will have limeted gains. What have you done to the front to direct air to the rear [floor wise]?

the idea will be will to run a ali splitter at the front with bolts onto my lip under the bumper, it will protrude about 3-4inches all around.

it will then go back to the rear of the subframe, with a small cover to access the sump plug.

the ali will then travel the full length of the vehicle to the diff, where from there i was thinking of starting the diffuser piece.

so in theory the air should manage to get there unimposed, the only thing i need to think about is maintaining the air under the car and not letting it spill out of the sides, so some sort of sideskirt maybe....im thinking the vertical strakes similar to the williams in the ground effect days.

you guys have helped out a time attack guy with an impreza recently and i noticed you had added that to his car, also his diffuser was very low to the floor and looked similar to a f1 design

to show how small they are, every little helps when your trying to get 300kg of a chassis this small!

spoke to my builder today and they are sorting out the intercooler sometime this week if they arnt to busy, 4in outlet from the cooler, should help me run lower boost into the engine but maintain the volume(if anybody needs to know the reason for this let me know)

looking underneath makes me realise how much it will benefit from a flat floor, also you can see the old metal bumper bar, that wont be put on the new car!

when the accident happened i lived in a town house on a main road with no garage so it would be impossible to do it there.

Hence i sent it to a rx7 specialist who is building it now.

Once its built up enough to move on its on steam ill be bringing it home to my new house, put it in the garage and finish it off.

things like mirrors, all aero work, wheels, different coilovers, fitting seats, methanol injection, big turbo etc will all be done at home to save money

though i tried to change the title of the thread as its not really a budget build anymore

well someone needs to drive it so it may aswell be me, ill be running it on a few trackdays before i go racing so i can get some testing done and get the car and myself dialled in, then when i look at the laptimes i can see what i can be compeitive in.

Im thinking maybe something like britcar, but more likely eurosaloons as they seem to cater for pretty much anything and ill like racing with all types of stuff.

oh yeh, forgot this, for the rest of the year ill be running on the stock turbos as that way i can really push the chassis setup while not adding to many new things into the mix at once.

with that in mind i bought a very rare downpipe from a company called knightsports, theses are normally £800 new but i found a second hand one for £100 because he didnt know what it was, this will allow lower backpressure which in turn cuts down on exhaust gas recirculating into the combustion stroke which helps against detonation and in turn more power. This will help my turbos last longer while on track.

the stock downpipe is single 2.5inch pipe, each pipe on this one is 2.2inch
301215_10150294935341657_643856656_8309978_1861650_n.jpg

400bhp+ and 1000kg should be enough to get the chassis setup then i can sort out big power, dont want to run before i can walk as such.

Love this build!

thanks, ill update it whenever there is something to show

You still aiming for 200mph?

Or has this shifted more onto a race car now?

Looks cool either way.

oh yes, theres no way ill not be doing my 200mph run, i suppose you could at least say im going to be safe with all the cage in there.

Plus it will actually be easier to fit the figure i require because of the reduced weight, this in turn means better accelaration so ill be able to hit 150mph within a shorter distance(the aim for that is 1/3 mile) so will have more room for the 150-200mph hence either hitting the speed with more room to brake or potentially pushing past 200mph, only 2-3mph at most though.

the plan is to spend xmas and early next year getting back used to the car and iron all the bugs out, then when i feel i can get the best out of the car ill put the big single on.

the good thing about running the big single is i can turn the boost right down and still make plenty of power for racing, this will give the engine more reliability instead of cramming as much boost as i can in with smaller turbos.

This is immense, I love RX7's.

thanks, ive come along way since working as one of the telesales guys at OCUK when you were all at fenton..

on the racecar/top speed car thing im trying to combine ideas and concepts that will work in both worlds, for example because im running a 'flat boot' ie theres no spare wheelwell, this allows for a massive diffuser, this inturn gives downforce and less drag at high speed, this is my design, being made out of thin ali so its pretty cheap and effective.

185361_10150273669826657_643856656_8112979_3435372_n.jpg

red is fuel tank
dark orange is the chassis/boot floor
light orange is the bumper
black is the subframe
dark grey is exhaust
light grey is diffuser

Im planning on it sticking past the diffuser about 3-4inches past the rear bumper to help with seperation.

and yes its a very basic blown diffuser, just call me lee 'newey' connor(it wont actually produce downforce on throttle before anyone comments)

Not sure if i also mentioned my digital dash and my CDI ignition system arrived earlier on this week, dont have pics of them since they are at the workshop but these are stock images so you know what they look like.

yes i could, the car came from factory with an oil cooler each side, but im trying to avoid that because of pressure drop and also when on a single turbo ill put the airfilter on the drivers side where the stock cooler used to be so it gets fresh air

For all of you that are interested, i'm afraid to say that this project will never ever happen. It seems turbo ****** has been a lying little **** bag ripping people off selling the same car parts twice and neither buyer ever receiving them. He has a large hate base on FDUK who generally think he's full of **** and a lying little scrote. He's been given countless chances to explain his actions and his answer is "I couldn't be bothered" Sums him up nicely IMO

He also owes an RX-7 tuner a large sum of money.

wow, you really seemed to know what went on didnt you.

The facts are, i gave him a budget of 10k to work to, he did not do so, thats his fault not mine.

if you came to me and said you have 10k to build a vehicle, i agreed then after we are 50% through you come back and say it will now cost 23k to build, what would your answer be..........yeh sure thats fine ill get my cheque book out?

I never claimed to know a thing about this whole ordeal TTosser. I'm going off instinct. The thing is, i know or have spoke to most of those people accusing you on FD:UK, and i've spoke to john@Atomicrex in germany when he took the orange race fd to the ring. I've got more of an instinct that you're the lying toad and not them.

this is really impressive, you have decided to come onto another forum and spout abuse at me when you have no proof or evidence and just going off your instinct.

Maybe i should drop down to your level and throw abuse at you.........not because i know anything about you just because i feel like it.

You met him in germany...........well that settles it then, he must be speaking the truth about everything for the rest of his life, maybe i should go to germany if it makes such a difference.

I can quote someone else with his experience of the situation if you like.........i think he spent a summer in germany if it helps

Er, so you start with a budget of 10k for a certain scope of work (modding a road car basically), but then you completely change the scope of work (to pretty much a full race car prep with GRP body and blingy bits) and still expect the price to be 10k??

Ok:rolleyes:

Lol

nope, i put aside 10k to build my rx7 into a fast road car.

spent 7k of that, doing suspension, seats, engine, ecu, rad, intercooler.

then have a crash on ice.

set aside ANOTHER 10K for the build, starting with another shell that already had a cage and grp parts on it.

I am going off instinct on who to believe, you or them. Why would i believe you over 5+ people? People whom i've personally either spoke to over the phone or at meets or people whom i've sold to or bought off?

Then there are those on passion ford who you've sold manifolds to. Did you not pull the same stunt with selling RX-7 manifolds on FD:UK?

There is a trail of destruction across the internet in your name Turbotoaster. That is enough to warrant an update to this thread.

what the hell are you on about........who is selling manifolds to people on passionford?

Again you dont even know what your talking about, i have sold no manifolds to anyone on passionford, they are speaking about the two on fduk you idiot.

5+ people......i have never sold or had any financial interaction with that many people.

Your hatred really does blind you to the truth and unfortunately throwing my name around like mud doesnt really gain anything because in a month it will be old news anyway
