My 540

This chip'll do 4.5GHz on stock V and 5GHz with very little fiddling (1.404v) so I'm reasonably sure it's a good clocker. My only other overclocking knowledge was based on the Black Edition chips though whereby I had northbridge and what not to worry about. I'm still learning about the Sandys :)

What was max Vcore agin 1.52v?!
Got loads of headroom :D

Woah there! 1.425V seems to become the normal recommended max.

For the fans, it could be that minimum on your controller is higher than minimum on someone elses!

Cool thanks for that. I've since found the Sandybridge 5GHz thread on here :)

Everytime I look though logs it makes me want to spend the money on wcing :( I need to stop coming to this part of the forum :p

Do it. It costs a small fortune and I'm still not really sure whether the benefits outweigh it but it's funky.

I was kind of regretting buying a 2500 seeing as it was 2 year old tech but since having it up and running and benching/gaming on it I cant imagine it being far off todays pace. Also £103 for what seems to be a decent clocker aint bad :)

Love the copper & black/white theme! Fan rings really complete it tbh!

'Milk that cow' - I think is aimed at the white pipes (full of milk) ? :D

I went the 2700K route when building my new rig, managed to snag one on the 'bay for much less than most of the 2600K's are still selling for (£136) so I was chuffed! Bang for buck the SB's seem good - there was no way I could justify the cost of a Haswell/2011 i7 build, but the SB was within my budget. I wanted an i7 as had all intension of going CF 7950's so avoiding any future bottleneck ;)

I've pushed it upto 4.8 on stock volts using the ROG auto-clocker and it's more than fast enough, temps are amazing so pretty sure I can go 5ghtz+ at some point! :D

I've got 1 Bitfenix Spectre with white LED's that really makes my lower case glow, imagine it'd look loads better with a bigger area!

Yeah I guess if I can get hold of a 7950 (pesky miners:mad:) and the 2500k isn't enough I could always go for a 2600/3770 if needs be.

The sandy/z68 combo cost me around £150 which compared to a 4570/z87 made for a huge saving without too much a deficit in terms of performance so I'm happy.

I'll get the NZXT LED's in tomorrow hopefully and see what that does for me :)

Very interested to see how they turn out... My build is white so any lighting seems bright! :D

Spoilered as really off topic! - I paid £163 for a new 7950 (MSI OC BE) new when OCUK had a big sale on them... Then picked up a second hand (MSI OC TFIII) for £140... The TFIII is now my primary card (less direct air than the lower which has a bottom case fan, but better cooler so it runs a few degrees cooler - 32:36 kinda comparison - not much!). 7990 beating performance for ~£300! I had intended selling the OC BE to recoup some costs, but havn't needed to (and Christmas is 99% paid for!) so I'll probably continue running CF and only sell when the cards start losing some serious value...

You were similar to me - 2700K & P67 board & 8GB RAM = £280 = much more affordable than going latest gen!

Might do some mining over the Christmas break to assist with the heating lol ;)

Yeah I'll get some pics up if they turn up tomorrow, I've got today and tomorrow off work so doing a bit of benching/OCing whilst I should be Christmas shopping... God I hate trying to buy gifts :( It's not the buying them that's the problem in fact, it's the not having a clue what anybody would like!

And the white lights I ordered say white lights on the invoice, and they even say white lights on the packaging but the actual lights are green!!!

Any way, I've overclocked the chip to 5.46GHz and ran a SuperPi 1m time of 6.850s :D
Also got the 1600 ram running 1923MHz!
Max temp of 69*C :)

It really is a beautiful case, I couldn't resist any longer and ordered a sliver one this morning, along with the H70 I got from the clearance sale my cooling is going to be nicely upgraded :)

I have a problem... Chances are that I wont be able to get hold of another 7950 so I either
A) deal with it
B) sell it on the MM (£200 maybe with the water block?)
C i)Sell it on the bay with the stock cooler
Cii)Sell it on the bay with the waterblock

What are your thoughts?
I guess if I sold it on I'd be looking at a 280x with a water block :)

Ebay it and get a 280x, those miners should be all over your card lol.

Ps. I really need to get on mm, see what all the fuss is aboue
