Here is a benchmark of both Samsung drives.

The on-board M.2 on my Asus X99 Pro seems to be stuck at 10Gb/s when it's capable of 32Gb/s.

I cant find anything in the bios that changes it.

Pics arent working. X99 Pro (Mine gets delivered this morning!) has 2 M.2 slots doesnt it? Which one are you using? Also what CPU do you have and what PCIE slots are you using?

One on the board and the other as an add on card.

CPU is 5930k and i'm currently running SLI in slots 1 & 3. Both at x16.

Pics now working. The speed for the M.2 drive is as fast as that drive will go.
I assume your Samsung 850 are in RAID? It's the only way you would achieve that figure.

I appreciate that it says link speed is 10GB/PS which doesnt sound right, however everything else looks fine. Even if you were getting 32GB/PS nothing would change in terms of the read writes as you're at the limit of what the 950 can do.

It's an unfair comparison as you're comparing 2 or more 850's in RAID 0 which will always be faster than a single drive. If you were able to RAID 0 the 2x M.2 slot, it would be faster again than your 850's. In short, nothing is wrong.

The 950s can get a bit toasty and start thermally throttling when benchmarking.
There's a test of with and without heatsink here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9856/angelbird-wings-px1-m2-adapter-review-do-ssds-need-heatsinks
It doesn't show any justification for adding a heatsink until you get to about page 6 with the 512 benefiting more than the 256.
This may not be the problem you have at all but it's worth testing the temperature of the drive. I think HWInfo will do it if it's not in a RAID array.

I believe they only start throttling at about 85°C but - and you're welcome to call this paranoia - I get worried when things are too hot to touch!
