I plan to put the TV on a motorised arm so that it can come out and tilt but it will be flush with the wall when retracted.

We are now boarding all the bathrooms, I will post photos in about 2 weeks as I am going away on a business trip.

We expect in september but something has come up with work and I have to go away for a few business trips tomorrow morning, I expect to be back in about 3 weeks so its going to slow stuff down.

Also my wife was just offered a job in Australia so we are thinking long and hard about moving out there. She is not keen at all but I REALLY want to go.

Updates!!!! :) Good positioning of the ovens etc such a pain having to bend or crouch down to get things out of ones that are low down. Slowly but surely looks like it's coming along nicely!

If you go to Australia I'll look after the place for you.

There will be no more updates for 3 weeks now as one of my clients had a little problem and I had to jump on a flight to India.

There is still work going on while I am away, by the time I get back all the UFH should be down and the screeboard on top of it.

Then we just have to paint, fit the doors, tile and fit the bathrooms / kitchen.

Sorry I have been quite for some time since my last update. Lots has happened. I won a court case against my electrician, I nearly moved to america but that did not happen in the end. My wife finally became a GP. The flat worked slowed down a lot as I have not been in the uk much.

I dont have many photos on my phone but here are a few. I will post more in the new year.

Speakers have been plastered into the walls

Paint going on. We sent throughout close to 1000l of pain in the end.
We used this paint coloured to a F&b colour
http://www.johnstonestrade.com/endura.aspx
Its supposed to be scrubbable but still give a very flat matt colour. The only problem is that its VERY expensive.

Paint is still wet on the speaker

Again we had massive problems with the floor. First there was way too much movement in the floor so I had to use a super expensive flexible adhesive.

Then I was using some super duper invisible grout which turned out to dry white so I had to take it out and start again.

It appears that the tiles I bought are also not as flat as they should be and the floors are also not flat so I had to out down lots of self levelling compound.

Hi All

I dont know if anyone is still interested. I have been out of the country a lot so not managed to move stuff forward as fast as we wanted. It ended up getting a little more expensive then we expected also.

We have ordered some of the furniture now.
This bed is going in our master bedroom, its going to be custom made to take a 2.4m x 2.4m mattress in walnut.
http://www.visualcomfort.co.uk

We have ordered this for bedroom 4
http://www.tvbed.com/products/the-los-angeles/

Its not the best looking but but its good quality, real leather and functional.

Dining chairs have been ordered from Australia so should be with us in around 12 weeks. The sofa we are going to order form Italy so again it will be here in around 10 weeks. They are coming from a small company but again it seems to be good quality and very bespoke

I have one and they are very good - I feel confident in saying that anyone who tries one will think it is a good idea and want one.

Agreed, I was sold on the idea after staying in hotels in Asia where it seems to be normal.

The only real down side is the cost!

I might be a bit out of the loop with door prices. But are they bullet proof too?

:D

Lol no but they are FD 30 door sets, so inc frames and stuff. I have 14 doors, a big steel door and one wardrobe door so overall its not bad value. They are all walnut which bumped the price up a little.

Do you have a rough valuation idea once complete? I'd bet that's mega.

One guy came in and said 600k with the aim to sell at 550 which is a joke.

Realistic is around £1m. At that level I would make something but not huge amounts. This project was never about making money but more about building my dream home.

I quite dislike living this far north so at some point I may move back to London.

The next time I will only build around 3500 sq feet.

Wow, looking at this had made me really jealous (and slightly inspired). Well done!!

Thanks. I am pleased with the finished result in the end.

When you say realistic is £1m is that what you would realistically want for it or would the market in that area support such a price?

Well we had a few agents round and thats the sort of number they had come to. There is nothing to compare it to but a 3500 sq ft house in the same area can go for £800 to £900k but they will have a big garden. However my place is twice the size and has a excellent spec.

Good project, reminds me very much of my Ferrari F430 Aquisition Project, I am also £80k short of that as well.

How is that F430 of yours going?

Nice - looks lovely.

You must have put about £600/700k into the whole thing yourself mind you. Original thread way back in 2009 you said you were 50-75k short and that was before all the work started.

Is it worth it? Are you happy with the overall spend? Just curious!

Well, our original estimate was way way off. We kept increasing the spec and finding unexpected costs, so my expected shortfall went from 50 to 75k to over £200k in the end. I got a little help from my parents, an extra 75k from the bank and basically put everything we earn into the project.

Was it worth it? I dont really know. I was around 27/28 when I started it, I probably could have spent my time doing something more interesting, but if we stay up north it will provide us with a amazing family home. If it was in or close to London I would be over the moon with it.

I thought I would post up a few more photos, we have not done that much just littles bits and bobs over the last months as I have been busy with work.

Sadly we are selling up and moving back down to london, hopefully into Notting Hill area.

I will put some better photos when we put it up on the market.

Lovely looking place!

Thanks

How many bedrooms is it, 3?

It does look amazing but the kitchen seems to let it down - maybe there's more to it than the pictures show.

Do you reckon you would have made profit on the project? Getting a lorry/crane to transport a mattress etc couldn't have been cheap. :) In the last 4 years property prices (even in Sheffield) must have gone up a good few % naturally anyway?

I'll look forward to having a nose on Rightmove soon. :p

Good luck with the sale.

Hi, 4 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms and 2 study rooms.

I am not going to make any money on it at all, I would be lucky to get my money back.

Regarding the kitchen, there is quite a lot more to it, its probably the best thing in the house and set us back over £70k, I will post more photos later.
