My brakes

I cant do that because I wouldnt have a clue where to start and wouldnt want to break my car further! Which part of that do you not get?

Yes it still goes right down.

the part of that i got was you saying you needed the car tomorrow.

as for the pedal going to the ground with the engine off, thats really bad.

with the brake fluid level being good (ie no leaks) the next thing it can be is the brake master cylinder.

damn corsas

Fact of the matter is that if you aren't mechanically minded and you don't know anyone who is, then it is likely you will need to get this seen to, especially if you need parts.

I really know I need to get it fixed, I came in here to ask for some ideas on what it might be, and I thought that people would be able to tell from the things I have said that I know very little more than the basics about cars.

Water in the fluid would give a spongy pedal and fade but not pedal to the floor. Gubbed servo would just mean it would be really hard to brake.

If the master cylinder was gone would mean no fluid was leaking?

the diaphragm in the master cyl can die without fluid leaking out of the system at all.

it will mean that when you press the brake pedal, the split diaphragm is not actually pushing fluid at all as the fluid goes through the split

thats my diagnosis, obviously without seeing the car etc

Thats what i was thinking of(in terms of bike hydraulic brakes). If the fluid was ******* out then there would be a puddle somewhere.

i think she has already said the the fluid level is fine too... so bar something daft like the pedal box being broken and the pedal totally disconnected form the master cylinder, it should only be the master cylinder thats dead

the OP should ask around on a corsa board (im sure there are nutters out there who are fanatical about corsas right?)

it could be a common thing and therefore it could almost be a dead cert fix

please do, stupid places like quick fit will come up with all sorts of guff to mug you off.

if you get an answer during the day, try and post up on here with their diagnosis and someone more knowledgeable on here decide if their diagnosis is right

they could come back and say all your calipers were shot and need replacing, in an effort to rob you blind, but the likeness of it being calipers is almost zero.... be careful, garages cannot be trusted

I will do, have told them already that it had new brake shoes and pads less than 18 months ago, and they know I checked the fluid level and that the light inside was coming on. They also know that I looked underneath the car and didnt see anything leaking out of the inside of the wheel, so they cant try and pull a fast one with any of that.
Theyre not looking at it until tomorrow.

Well the car has been in and PASSED its brake test, they stripped everything down and checked for leaks etc. Checked the servo, checked the master cylinder all fine. The drums are fine. Drove it themselves. No brake fluid leak. Nothing. They said its roadworthy and the cant find anything wrong with it. They said I should take it to Vauxhall and get them to plug it into the ECU and see if its an electrical problem with the ABS.

Gawd knows, me am confuddled.

i think that may be the first time Kwik Fit not only not fleeced someone, but also told them their car is fine

Was it one of those "free brake inspection" things?

If your braking goes from ok* to nothing then back ok again -> Servo. Rubber seals have split or damaged, new unit is easier than replacing seals.

Normally an engine out job, depending.

Its now booked in to go to Vauxhall on Friday.
The braking is ok when im not travelling fast, like in a traffic jam, the problem occures when im slowing down from high speed (like getting off the motorway onto the slip road) it doesnt seem to want to slow down.
