I was in two minds about cleaning my car today, only cleaned it once since I picked it up. I am glad I did, because on closer inspection my cars starting to rust.

I phoned the dealership, who did not return my call in the 5-10 minutes, so I drove to Northampton where I purchased the car, to a shocked salesman.

Anyway look :( not happy. They have said they will sort it out, but the guy got narky when I asked him to put it in writting. Got a few days booked off end of the month between starting my new job so have booked it in with a courtesy car.

The salesman looked at it, but did not say much other than I will speak with my manager, and see what he says. He then dismissed me to book the car in with service and arrange a courtesy car as he said he no longer gives out his car after his the alloys on his were all curbed. I thought as he sold me the car, the least he could do was walk over with me to service to sort it all out right?

Anyway.......

I proceeded to service alone, slightly confused as to what was going on and advised service that the car was going to be booked in for bodywork as well as the exhaust rattle which has reappeared. Service guy looked supprised and asked why the salesman was expecting me to book it in, so he phoned him asking for clarification.

Anyway the car is booked in on the 27th March, with a courtesy car being provided by service. I am just slightly dazed by the whole situation of the salesman who appears to have washed his hands of me after he has got my signature and just seemed very disinterested in which as you will see in the pics below a slight concern!

I am not concerned about the rust on the drivers side just under the door, as this should be a small job, blending etc not really applicable as wont they just mask up the whole area and just paint the strip? But the wheel arch looks pretty bad dont you think?

Cheers for reading, someone put my mind at rest :)

Jeaz you've not had much luck with the old e46's have you :(

Hope it gets sorted out easily enough for you :)

What's the anti-corrosion warranty like on these? Audi offer 12 years so I'd have thought BMW would be similar?

I'm suprised they accepted it as it looks a lot like untreated stonechip damage to me?
The wheel arch does but I'm not so sure about the door - odd place for stonechips and there looks like bubbling just to the right of the left-most patch of rust.

Thats surface rust, its not come from the back of the arch and gone all the way through, its due to a stone chip.

I can see the ship, it's the fact that the rest of the arch is filthy that confuses me.

Something they should have picked up when they sold it to me then ;) only put 500 miles/month on it since I picked it up, if I have chipped it myself in this period surely it would not as advanced as it is?

When you washed your car, why didn't you wash the lip under the arch

Because thats when I spotted it :)

Don't know about stone chipped, above and below the obvious rust on the arch seems to be bubbling although its hard to see from a picture.

Is the rust on the same side as the door? Maybe a botched repair?

I'm not really suprised at the sales persons attitude tbh. Having been in sales myself briefly the last thing you want to be doing is hand holding someone who's come back to complain when all your boss cares about is how many cars your selling.

You obviously never owned a 90's Ford

Who me? If so my first car was a 1.3 L reg escort :D rear wheel arches were screwed

Got a better pic now, cleaned up for Bri. I think the wheel arch has a textured finish anyway, is this right guys? It dont look too bad I think

Google has failed me on E46 wheel arch pics so i'll just ask. Is it definitely not a screw head thats rusted, rather than the bodywork?
