Does any here use one of these?

I was thinking of buying one without any drives as a cheap NAS with my two external USB drives plugged in and then add a couple of WD Red drives later in the year, would that work?

Does it have to be that one or are you open to alternatives?

I'd recommend Synology DS213j, Synology's OS, DSM, is decent.

It works, but you're probably better off adding 2 internal drives right away.

personally i like the synology nas's we use them at home and at work because they are just easy

I was looking @ the EX2. still not made my mind up though. I've got 2x 640GB disks to put to use but the nas box is far better value when it comes with harddrives... 4TB around £200 or £150 empty :rolleyes:

... hardly seem worth ustiling my 640GB's when I can spend a fraction more and get it with 4TB...

what to do argh!

As mentioned, Synology NAS boxes are well worth it. Something about the OS & add-on packages that give them that edge.

Got the DS214 recently & used some HDDs that I had free. So far its been great & handles any storage task we throw at it very well, better than expected.
