My E6300 & DS3 Poor Overclocker...

sorry double post :(

edit:might as well use this post - my pc crashed twice. once in 3dmark01 and another while priming after 1 hour at 333fsb and everything stock:/

fsb=350
pci=100
memory multi=2
rest default it shuts down and reverts to the stock clock...running the f1 bios, got no floppy disk drive;/

add this to your current bios settings, i did and can now hit fsb 450
PCIE voltage +0.1
FSB voltage +0.1
gmch voltage +0.1

oh i will try. What has been happening is that when i put my settings in for the oc, save and exit the pc reboots at stock again.

Tooks, if you don't mind can you drop me an email(email in in trust). ;)

edit:cliffy that didn't work. I put those settings in, then saved to cmon and exited. The pc just turned itself off and then turned on again and it is now back at stock. Could it be the bios im using? I haven't upgraded it yet.

i just updated my bios to f3 and it now boots at 400fsb and the settings you told me cliffy! Is it safe (the voltage incriments - especially to the pcie?)

Edit 3...At 400fsb my system just reboots in windows sometimes i get the blue screen saying windows had to shut my pc down due some sort of error. Any suggestions?

At 380fsb the system runs fine for an hour or so while priming then i get a blue screen and i have to reboot. The prime logs say it doesn't fail prime :( Do i have the same problem as tooks?

may be slightly more voltage to the cpu. I run 24/7 with the voltages that i previously stated, i'm now on the f4c bios. these boards are so frustrating some people are hitting near 500 with no additional volts others have to add volts and some get no where no matter what the volts

I added 0.3v to dimm voltage as suggested by someone who had the same setup and problems and they run at 460x7 now no problems but i cant do that - blue screens. So far it seems ok at 430x7 with only vdimm+0.3 but the rest default. I'll probably be eating my words soon.

Hope gigabyte pull it out and get a better bios/stability update in.

Edit: got the blue screen again....is it ok to run other apps while priming?

Just priming my 6300 and ds3, at the moment it's stable at 460 fsb. I did notice that gigabyte m/b gave my ram some silly timing, 3.8.8.23. I'm going to change them later, and try 4.4.4.13, and maybe get the fsb up alittle more

geil 5300 2 gig mate, I think they are value, I bought them from overclockers about 3 months.

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB5300DC) (MY-034-GL)

Just a quick update.

I ditched (well, RMA'd anyway!) my DS3 and replaced it with an Asus P5B, and although I still can't get anywhere near others clocks, it's a transformation for me!

I've had it as high as 386FSB with just a smidgen of voltage to the DIMMS and CPU. I think my RAM is holding me back now though, and there are no dividers in the bios.

I've got it set at a stable 2.2Ghz now with all voltages back at stock, which is a modest OC but that was always my aim really, as I look at it like having a 6400 for the price of a 6300. (I know it's only £30 difference, but hey, every little helps as they say!)

I know others are having great success with the DS3, but for me this board is a whole different ball game. Just booted up, made my changes and away she went! No nonsense like not saving the settings etc.

Good little board I reckon. :)

Edit: My only niggle, is that it doesn't appear to report the CPU temp properly. This morning on my DS3 = CPU @ 35c, this evening on the P5B = CPU @ 60c...

Im finding my ds3 to be a little unpredictable too it will be prime stable for 6 hours then fail and reboot after 2 minutes. All I can say is hurry up and bring out a lanparty board DFI :eek:

That's still a really good OC though mate!! I'm impressed anyway!

:)
Thanks
I had it working great and i was pushing for 3.3ghz but now im trying to get 3.2ghz stable again

Just like Tooks, i have RMA'd my board now for a replacement. Hope i can actually clock on the next one.
