My engine has failed :(

Bits of bearing in the sump do not make me a happy boy. New engine for sure.

:(

Will it have to be a whole new engine? How much are you looking at to replace it?

Problem with bits going through the engine it pretty much wrecks everything, crank, pistons, oil pump, head, cam. Pretty much anything oil touchs. You can never guarentee you'll get it fully clean unless you strip to bare block either.. Im currently replacing a £22k truck engine because the big end bearing spun, welded itself to the crank and stopped the engine in a good ole fashion

Looks like I have a have a plan coming together...

I already have a head from a scrap engine I picked up a while ago. I've just bought a bottom end from a guy on the VX forum for about £130 inc delivery.

I already have a head bolt set and a head gasket from the LSJ build sitting in my loft. On this temporary engine I may remove the balancer shafts and fit a lightweight flywheel just to allow it to rev a tad more easily.

I have also bought an 182k mile engine from a local scrap yard which I heard running (slightly poorly at first but it may have been due to sitting about) for only £80(!!) which I will almost certainly break for parts.

I may even make a profit out of this...

Old engine not quite out yet as it's a lot of work. You don't know how lucky you guys are with normal cars that don't need a whole clamshell removing to get to!

Have to give respect for attempting an engine job I wouldn't have the confidence to try. Hope it all works out well in the end, while I admit I'm no Vauxhall fan I do like the little VX's.

I also love the MK1 MR2's having owned one myself it's the only car I really regret selling - nice pic kaiowas :D

We've got a spare one to get rid of at the moment if you fancy another ;)

Ha, dont tempt me - I was seriously considering purchasing another car in the new year, however other things such as home improvements and waiting until my OH has finished her uni course and we've got two wages coming in will have to take priority. This is me thinking with my sensible head at the moment :o
