My final LRPS panel selection

fantastic pics, all of them are stunning but number 6 for me has even more to it, i keep going back and looking at it lol, i can't seem to put into words why but its so intriguing.

All the best with your app!

Looking at these again, I still think the shots are good, but the development of each of these shots is great. Your skill with Pchop is way above mine and I really need to practice a lot more.

What would be interesting to see is the starting point for each of these images, and a quick summary of what was done to achieve the results.

Dear Alasdair

I am sorry to have to inform you that your application for the Licentiateship Distinction was not successful. A Comment sheet giving the reasons for the Panel’s decision will be sent out as soon as possible

Best wishes

Carol

yikes, I presume you can apply again? Do you know anyone who has been successful? If so what sort of pictures did they send?

On pic number 6 - under the guys eye, what is that big white blob that is there? or is it my screen at work?

Its a tear.

Yeah I can apply again. Think I can apply again at half price (£20). Its the fact that Ive been waiting about 6-7 months for this that is gutting. Without sounding arrogant I was very confident that I would pass this after looking at other examples of successful panels.

You can see a load here btw;

Commiseration's mate I thought you had it in the bag!

I hope the comments sheet they send will provide significant justification for why they didn't pass you.

Let us know when you hear from them.

im gutted for you! chin up and dont let it get to you - as stated your portfolio must be brilliant!

The candids are excellent, most of the pictures are very good although some of the sparser ones seem technichally competent (as all were) but perhaps lacking in subject.

Care share how you get such nice B&W conversions?

A friend of my dads is an FRPS and all he takes photos of is Mushrooms and Fungi, if he can get to FRPS im amazed you didnt get LRPS with that submission.
What comments did they give ?

Looking at the selections that got through it's pretty surprising yours didn't. Oh well, you've got a few more awesome shots now, why not replace the weakest of the selection and re-apply.

Anyway, they've got to make money somehow :P

I don't know what it is with the LRPS - but I can never see consistency with their selection process. I've seen other examples of successful panels before but having a quick mooch through that selection doesn't make my understanding of the whole thing any clearer. I've seen some absolutely shocking photography get through and it confuses the hell out of me.

Don't get me wrong, there are some stunning examples of photography on lots of those successful LRPS boards (including ones I've seen IRL) but I don't understand the judging criteria one bit. I should really download the LRPS information pack and see what they're looking for as it might help me to understand how some of the panels got through.

I can't criticise your photography in any way, Messiah, as it's some of the most consistently excellent work I've had the pleasure of seeing in recent years, but I would have to question the inclusion of #6 and #9 in your panel as I don't understand their relationship to the other images. They feel a little out of place amongst the other subject matter - but that's probably my understanding of the criteria for submission getting in the way of understanding your panel.

I'm as surprised as anyone... It seems very harsh to me.

But maybe there is another way to look at this. Maybe it is good news. You post stuff here in OcUK and we all bow in admiration. Now you have found an audience who is not impressed. So you'll need to raise your game.

Maybe you have risen above us and you need a more critical audience. It is the best way to improve.

Andrew

I think your shots are good, but the quality of the shots in the first few galleries alone on there, seems to have a slightly higher standard finish.

To be honest, the progress you've made in the last year, I'd be very surprised if you didn't get it within the next year anyway.

{edit} Oh, by the way, have you altered that miner with the tear? I don't ever remember seeing something as pronounced as that on the original shot. I know you mentioned that you were reprocessing them a while ago. The shot is good until you notice that tear. It looks like a white blob on the image, rather than something that's supposed to be there.
