Got this today.

Came with a 16 port Pressac presslink cat5e patch panel.

Please don't ask me why I got it. It was on Ebay and I got it for £9.99 it is in pretty good condition. couple of tiny marks on one corner, thats it.

Good god these small cabinets are A) well made and B) heavy. Very solidly built. Would need some serious anchors into the wall to hold this. never thought they were this heavy.

No idea if I want to use it. Was needing a patch panel and a switch as trying to sort my network side of the house out.

Anyway. Thought some of you maybe interested.

The cabinet looks nice.

I’d normally avoid second hand patch panels as I've found that the IDC punch downs can be unreliable. This will no doubt depend on how good the patch panel was in the first place. Hopefully you’ll not have any problems.

These can easy be re-punched, or just by a new patch panel strips, they are not expensive.

As I am new to cabinets. Surely they all fold out on hinges to allow access to the back? otherwise how on earth would you get to the back for patch panels etc?

It is 14 inch's deep
2 foot wide
18 inch's high

I believe that means it will only fit stuff 600mm long.

I work from the front with the patch panel bolted in but flipped over so that the punch downs are facing outwards. This keeps things steady and easy to work on. Once everything is punched down it can be flipped back over and screwed into place.

can you mount something like this to a normal brick wall?

I just don't know. It is quite heavy.

Yes, just use suitable fixings. It probably won't be any heavier than a kitchen cabinet full of tins.

It can be easier to mount a wooden panel or battens to the wall first, and then fasten the cabinet to them. To some extent it depends on how flat and even the brickwork is.

If you’re mounting to a brick wall drill the actual bricks and not the mortar between them.

Edit:

It should be possible to separate the back panel from the rest of the cabinet. Mount the back panel to the wall and then reattach the front section.
