Awesome first car!

Would love an MR2, I know its been said but be careful. Jeez i've spun fwd gutless power of craps never mind a rev1! :)
 
I don't get the stuff about the Rev1 being 'snappy' or letting go without warning. I pootled about in one for neck end of a year without any drama, without dying in flames and that was on the dinky 14's. It's not that I drive like a saint, I certainly don't.

That said, I had moved from a 200SX to the MR2. And it's an...interesting...choice of first car.

I don't think it will suffer as much to the "twitchy" snap oversteer as a stock car due to the larger alloys. That was one of the main problems with the rev 1's was the diddy 14" alloys. Thats why they put larger 15's on in the later revisions. If he is really worried he could get it dialed out with an alignment by using a later revisions settings.

I've had my rev1 turbo for over a year and i ain't dead. I don't exactly drive it like a granny but i pay attention to what i am doing and to the conditions of the road. Follow these rules and you will be fine and not die.

The rev 1 ain't particulary powerful in N/A guise anyways. about 150bhp from the factory.

Enjoy the car mate. They are great fun to drive and for a first car i would be very chuffed.
 
I owned a 1991 MR2 Turbo as my second car (after a 1.2 Punto).

Luckily it had a lot of suspension modifications, full Tein HA coilover kit, front and rear struts etc, and it was still dodgy if you weren't very very careful.

As a first car, I'd personally be a bit scared of the '2, although being non-turbo it isn't quite a dangerous.
