My First Experience on a Bike...

Hi guys,

Well today i had my first ever experience on a bike (albeit as a passenger), what can i say other than oh my god. Ive never experienced acceleration like it.

Bike in question was a 2002 Honda Fireblade. I couldn’t believe how quickly the thing got to speeds far greater than we should have been doing, you can overtake things safely that you wouldn’t even attempt in a car. All this yet i thought we were stuck behind a slow driver when cruising for a bit, looked down and we were touching 95mph, was a really odd sensation as in fairness to the car driver he was pressing on yet the bike did it without batting an eye lid.

Made me realise how slow my car actually is, yet in reality its no slouch (i own a Clio 182).

Going to go out on the bike a few more times in the not so distant future, if i continue to enjoy it as much as i did today i may look into doing my bike test.

Only problem with bikes is other car drivers...you don’t realise how truly invisible you are to some dozy sods, you get people pulling out of junctions in front of you and people on mobile phones just stopping for no reason...all quite tense when on a bike.

Yeah, Phil did say that the blades tame compared to a lot of bikes out there.

He previously owned an R1 but sold it as he said he felt he was going to kill himself on it. After 18months of fighting the urge to buy a new bike he gave in and bought one which he thought he would at least stand a chance of living on.

I'm having that problem at the moment. I know what I want and I can afford it (gotta love the price of bikes!) but I also know I can kiss my licence goodbye no matter how hard I try to restrain myself :p

:( mine maxes out at 140 silly wee 600 sports tourer! Then i watch as all my mates go flying past me. Still it will keep me alive and ant too slow about getting up to speed compared to any car.

(all on private track!)

thats why my bike has gone. I tended to go a wee bit mental when i was out.
Red mist decends and thats it. Wasnt my license i was worried about, it putting a bike shaped hole in a wall/car.

Stick to the cycling now.

I am loathe to post this, but "on the roads" in "real world" riding, a superbike will go from A>>>>B faster than any car anyone cares to mention.

That's not a post in order to achieve any sort of "one upmanship" over fast car drivers, its simply fact.

As the OP has illustrated, anyone that has not had experience of just how quick a modern superbike can be has absolutely no comprehension of how these things make progress on the roads compared to our 4 wheeled perfomance driving brothers. :)

I'm not going to get involved in posting any "Well, this is the fastest I have gone on a bike" claims, I don't feel the need to do so.

I ride safely and quickly on the road on an Aprilia RSV Mille.

In fact, I'm just back from the first stage of a "Bikesafe" course - see my other thread.

Can only agree with what Draeger has said, bikes are just stupidly quick and it's more the acceleration at any point of the rev range rather than just top speed.

I've been in a fair amount of fast cars, and yes whilst they are quick they aren't bike quick. A bike costing a few grand can really ruin the experience of being in a car that costs 100K+ :p

agreed i've owned a few fast cars 0-60 sub 6 secs but on the back of my mates 06 R6 was stupid to say the least. :)

Yep, most standard superbikes these days will hit 60 in around 2.6-3.0 seconds.

However, it's not just the 0-60 times that make them quick from A to B on the roads, "in-gear" acceleration comes into play, as well as manouverability, visibility over traffic in front etc.

Sure.....stick a Veryon up against something even like a turbo Busa in a straight line on a dragstrip or airfield and I'm sure the car will wipe the floor with the bike.

On the roads though, 'tis a different matter.

Oh, and I am not condoning "racing" on the roads peeps!!!. :p

I'm liking the idea of a 954RR as the "sensible option" :D "This one only makes 140bhp and does a 10.25 quarter mile at nearly 140mph, I'm sure I'll be much safer on it

2 up on a 'Blade's nothing, wait till you get a ride on a Blackbird, Busa or ZZR14 ;)

accelerating on back of a zzr1400

scariest yet most fun moment of my life. it just a constant acceleration that feels like it will never stop

EVERYONE needs to do it atleast once

i'm "downgrading" from a super sports to a Triumph Sprint 1050 triple i think, purely for comfort and to slow me down. Feel like i'm visitng the Isle of Mann everytime i go out recently - pretty stupid, hence my thoughts on changing.

Going out on the back of my Dad's SV1000sz for the first time was quite an experience, I can tell you!

O_O all the way up to insanity speeds. At one point I nearly killed myself by attempting to glean a look at the speedo. I've been on the back of fast bikes going fairly briskly before (and indeed as a rider), but nothing prepares you for the "breeze" at those kind of speeds...

It depends, I believe I heard from about 110 kph ( 70 mph ?) cars have better cornering ability than bikes. On a truly fast road ( with that I mean a road with only fast corners for 80mph etc) I think a fast car would win.

Or am I talking nonsence ?
