Hey guys,

I'm going to spa in August which will be my first F1, and was hoping to get some advice on what you should take to an F1. Things like, do you get radios for commentary? Any bits that I wouldn't necessarily think of besides, tent, booze and raincoat?! :)

I'm also going to Spa, which will be my 4th F1 Grand Prix.

Things I taken to previous events are fold up chairs and a picnic. That's it really!

There are a few other things I'll be taking with me to Spa though-

Sun lotion
Cash (euros)
Raincoat (I want the mclaren £150 one but the gf would go nuts I think) :D

We're doing the 3 days at Spa so I think I'll be getting a Kangaroo (or Spa equivalent) - a portable TV to watch the action on basically.

KangarooTV (now called FanVision) is a must! They are still on offer for Spa at 55Euros for the 3 days. If you plan on sharing one remember to take some extra headphones and a 3.5mm headphone splitter.

KangarooTV is great, we used it last year at Silverstone GP. I gather the new one has a better screen. Well worth the money.

The new one with a better screen is only available for purchase. The hired ones are still the original. Purchasing one only makes sense if you attend about 4 races a year!

Raincoat and/or umbrella
something to sit on
Euros
Drinks + snacks
Kangaroo tv for the 3 days
camera (optional)

More than likely to be wet/muddy at some stage so where appropriate clothing.

Haha. No. Bashing it with a hammer a few times might slow it down enough to be as fast as everyone else though.

I'll give you a clue, its the long spikey side your interested in, not the flat hammer side :). Having it made me, and a lot of people around me, much more comfortable....

(I am so bigging this up into something much more exciting than it actually is!)

I don't know... wild guess , is it for making holes in the ground to plant your chairs in so they don't slide down a hill / embankment or something?

Spot on!

Large areas of Spa are grassy/gravel/dirt banking and fairly steep. If you sit a normal fold up chair you will be lent forward and its rather uncomfortable. The second year we went we took a brick hammer to dig 2 holes to put the back legs in to make the seats level, and became the most popular people on Pouhon! lol :)

Ha! Good point.

What is there to do outside of watching the racing? Being there all weekend, does it get boring at all? I mean, it's not like a festival is it? Well regardless, I've weekend gold tiks for the chicane stand so can't wait! Just hope the weather is nice...

There are support races on all weekend, so theres always something to watch. There is also the 'F1 Village' which is just all the merchandise stands. they are on the outside of Eau Rouge (so for you, walk under the track at the chicane, round the bottom of the pits, and under Eau Rouge). You also have to walk around the track atleast once throughout Friday or Saturday just to get an understanding of just how epic this place is.

And then on Sunday after the race, they open the track up, so pictures of you sat on Eau Rouge are mandatory :)

Also, I assume you can buy ticket lanyards onsite?

You can buy teams ones from the Merchandise stands. Some Spa tickets come with their own too.
