my first rpg

well another half hour and things are picking up

found the first village your sent to and i may have accidentaly killed someones kid

the whole village went tonto and tried to kill me :) but me and my trusty warhammer have dispatched them all :) i've also found out i can shoot flames out my hands - epic :)

I think my first rpg was the shinning light (I think thats it i know its shinning something) series on the sega mega drive hehe. They really got me into the whole rpg thing my fav of all time though was when i first got a pc and went on eq1 loved that till soe killed all the fun by doing addons.

really getting into this now in a big way :) had a wee week or two away from it and came back ti it this week :)

its like growing up in Glasgow tbh :)

fist fights in the pub joined a gang and went housebreaking ;)

well guys as a long time avoider of rpg type games i've been tempted by this new skyrim game, it looks pretty and everyone seems to rate it so i'm tempted.

would you guys recommend it for a rpg noob? or should i look at something a bit less taxing to break me in?

do you like fantasy (wizards, knights etc...) or do you want sci-fi??

fantasy: baldur's gate, diablo, guild wars. you can also try a MMO for free trial like LOTRO or Age of Conan

sci-fi: KOTOR, Fallout 3/New vegas or Mass Effect 1 (amazing cinematics and art direction)

Go for it but I'd suggest Fallout 1 & 2 & Baldurs Gate 1 & 2 Plus expansions as a real intro to RPG's

Also If you do go for skyrim be wary of stray arrows or you may end up as a town guard!

Depends, do you want absolute freedom or a slightly linear experience with a constantly unravelling plotline?

The Witcher 2 is the latter and its what I'd reccomend if you want a game that holds your hand.

Age of conan is free to play now, its rubbish though.

i liked it.

have you played it? if so were you one of those that played at launch and then dropped after the first month? the game has completely changed from launch, and am sure there have been even more changes since i last played it over 18 months ago

anyway you are free to your opinion if you don't like it, but it certainly isn't rubbish

I got it last week on disc. Installed, played for a few hours but I did not like it one bit. I guess it could get better but I found the start very boring indeed. Maybe I should give it another go

so you judge an MMO playing a few hours??? you haven't even touched the tip of the iceberg before lvl 40 (it is when you actually only start to have cool options).

if you have it installed i really suggest you spend a bit more time with it. it is a good game. it got slated at launch because it was an unfinished product with bugs and seriously lacking content. since then it has added so much more content (no need to grind to lvl 80 - i remember the days it was a giant grind after lvl 40) and bugs have been fixed

it may not be the best for some/many. but it still a very good game and worth a play, esp if free

I played 2 hours of it on PS3 the other day...

Horrible graphics but was really fun :p

haha

it's not on PS3 and seriously one of best looking MMO graphically, if you have the PC for it. though i would imagine most recent PC to be capable of doing that on max settings

hope you are not confusing Conan by THQ and Age of Conan by Funcom ;)

Yeah I guess so, I just found the start boring. First thing is to save that girl then it was fighting the same monsters over and over. I suppose I should reload it and play more after all I had to download a patch over 4 gig just to start it :) Has to be worth another shot. I also got Vanguard but have yet to install that

Skyrim was one of the best if not the best game I've played in a very long time.

is the combat like Oblivion? I know oblivion was a huge success but I never thought it was close to being epic. I found the combat terrible, inventory mgt and GUI were pants, although i did enjoy the thieves and assassins guild missions

I have very high standards when it comes to video games, specially RPGs, it's not just the combat, but yes there were massive improvements to the UI, one of my favourite ones is that you can assign a spell to each hand, so it you use ice bolt/fireball it literally looks like you're shooting fire from your hands if you hold the mouse down. But the voice acting and the graphics are epic as well, and so is the story. Skyrim is 10x better than oblivion imo.

Can you list your top 5 rpg's? I have really only got into them and loving them. So far witcher 1/2, risen, Oblivion, two worlds 1/2

Couple more I cant think off. I just got a shed load of old ones from amazon like baldurs gate pack, neverwinter nights etc.

Cheers

I would go for Oblivion first to be honest. Then go for Skyrim after that

Oblivion is much better game imo. But skyrim leveling is 100% easier. Oblivion leveling system sucks if have any sort ocd.

Basically if ocd get skyrim first if not get oblivion.

Also if you get oblivion make sure to do the below things.

All unofficial patches
Get a UI mod makes things lot easier DarkUI my recommendation.

Oblivion is not the most stable games I also reccomend get 4gb patch and oblivion crash prevention mod.
