Looking at getting my first SSD just to run my OS. Now looking at sub £100 and seeing drives for around £70-£80!

Just cant work out what the differance is between them all. Any points as to what is a good SSD to get start with would be great!

Sub £100 you're looking at older drives, lower spec, models that they're trying to get shot of in most cases. They're good, but not really worth the dolla in my opinion.

The best starter SSD would be either the 60GB OCZ Vertex 2, or the 64GB Crucual C300. Both of which can be had for between £105~125 if you shop around.

Well for a 40GB drive, it's not going to be much space, if you take windows 7 for example then over half of that is gone before you even start.

Also the drive itself doesn't have the read/writes of more modern drives. In general, you get what you pay for.

What do you do with your PC most?

Faster read (C300) speeds will boost load times
Faster writing (Vertex 2E) will boost encoding times.

Also search this forum for the "Intel roadmap" thread.

Just plumped for a Corsair Force 60GB, can be had for £110 and uses the newer Sandforce controller. 285mb read/275mb write, supports TRIM etc..

The only problem I can see is they have compatibility issues with Gigabyte boards, although it looks like Gb have a BIOS update on the horizon.
