My first wedding!

It might be the high key lighting, not sure. I think the others feature more blacks so perhaps that is why they stand out more :)

I know they will like it though, so I guess that's the main thing.

Thanks for the comments though, much appreciated as always.

Right, well most of tonight has been spent improving the first batch, and I am pretty happy now. The processing is now much more consistent. Although I have left the church B&W's as they are as I preferred the darker feeling to them. Some updates:

Brought the dress detail back a touch

Much better, but the middle B&W pic is still different to the other 2, the 1st and 3rd has a slight serpia tone where the 2nd one doesn't.

ah, i see.

so 3 styles. :) At least its one style for the first half and a then different one for the second rather than jumping back and forth.

Next wedding now lined up! As a second photographer for my sisters friend, who is a wedding photographer. Not until December 20th, so I hope to get another one in before there.

There is a local photographer whose website I have found, and I love his style, so I may contact him and ask about being a second photographer. How do you think it would go down though, as I would at some point hope to (maybe in 6 months, and it's just a dream for now) start charging and would be competition to him.

First, congrats getting your next gig and i would pick up as MUCH tips as you can, observe the main tog and just pick up little things. For example, I've seen a tog where when they are (yup, a couple who shoot together) at the bride's mother's house getting ready and they would look around the house at the family photos on the wall, see a photo her parents has on THEIR wedding day and do an homage to that. It is not necessary, but it's a nice touch if you can pull it off.

No harm also asking your local tog to be his second but i wouldn't think he would let anyone follow him knowing you'll be competing against him lol For one thing, he would have to protect his sales, another person shooting means he might lose prints sales, and also if you 2 don't get alone then you'll be more a nuisance to him than help, not saying that you are!

And as for wedding in December...get yourself some FAST glass, the sun starts setting by 3pm in December !

Cheers Raymond. I'm hoping by December I will have upgraded my kit, as I feel my current lens setup and 400D are starting to hold me back.

One mistake I did make at this wedding, turns out I shot wide open most of the time, I have no idea why, how stupid huh? Left me with loads of shots with more than one person needing to be in focus, and one of them is slightly out :(

Hey ho. I have done a first pass ont he second batch tonight, but rather than upload now I am going to revisit them tomorrow and do tweaks. For the second batch I have kept to two processing styles only (although they are slightly different to the first batch, haha!).

I'll have them up in a few days.

Actually....i shoot at under F/4 a LOT, and i mean a LOT! I love F/2.8, i was scared that was a bit too thin on FF so i upped it to 3.2 / 3.5 as i recall, not checked LR for statistic but i like the wide aperture and most of the time as long as the bride is in focus, its fine.

I would think about saving as much as you can, go for the 5Dii, if you can't then a 7D, and if you still can't then a 40D, also a 580exii as well.

This one is 2.8, he was spinning her around and so it was like now or never ! lol

100% crop.

I guess i am saying that you need to know at that moment what you want in focus and nail it.

Ok I finally got around to editting the final lot of photos. I had to deal with some pretty horrific blown highlights due to the mistakes I had made. I have brought them back as much as possible but in some cases I have had to resort to a 'high key' effect.

A small selection of my favourites.

They are PRETTY GOOD !

I keep thinking these are your first wedding, you have talent mate, nice mixture of candids there. Did you remember to take any shots of the table settings? the little things?

Oh, I am sure next time you won't make the same mistakes again, I've done the not changed ISO thing too, many times hence i developed an habit of checking my screen FREQUENTLY, so that if i lose a shot, it'll only be 1 or 2. The problem is less of an issue now as the 5Dii can do Auto ISO from 100 to 3200, and I found that to be pretty amazing, especially as even at ISO 3200 it is very usable.

Thanks mate :)

The wedding was very budget, so there weren't really any place settings, it was just a snack buffet with paper plates. I did get this of the cake people though

Not great, but it's something :)

I would LOVE a 5Dii, my ideal setup would be:

5Dii
24-70L
85L 1.2
70-200L

I would be a VERY happy man with those! :)

Few more from after the ceremony outside the church (these are the ones that were massively overexposed - mainly the bride's veil throughout)
