My ghetto E36 ICE install

He's been through this with me, but basically, the box has a slight annoyance issue when kicking down into a gear which I forget (2nd I think), regardless of mode of the box.

However, after a bit of reading, it is potentially a pretty (relatively speaking) cheap, if fiddly, fix.

Technically, the air should all be moving in the same direction unless there are phase issues.

But if they're in phase and the 6x9s move on the downstroke, the sub would do the same thing, pushing air out of the vents into the bootspace, against the 6x9s. Or am i confusing myself because i haven't allowed for the airspace being "made" by the cone on the sub moving backwards?

Eitherway, nobody else will be heartbroken if the 6x9s die ;)

Already got the bits required to change the ATF which should do it by all accounts. I am fairly sure its 3rd but it hasn't done it in absolutely ages.

I'm a big fan of cheap ICE.

My last ICE system comprised of 5 Sinfoni amps, a Pioneer P9 running fully active Focal Utopias with a Focal sub in the boot. It was all installed professionally and RTA's by Mark Turner.
My current system is a cheap Pioneer head unit (£100) a set of Alpine components (£80), a Kenwood 10" sub I had lying around and a 4 channel JVC amp (£100)

Considering my current system cost less than the RCAs did on my last system it sounds damn good.

I've done the expensive ICE thing and it's just not worth it. It's a law of diminishing returns and I think that a sub £500 system can produce 90% of the quality of a £10k system as long as it's installed and set up correctly.

A simple install is best tbh, a decent set of comps up front, amped, and a semi decent sub, and your there imo, HU are much of muchness imo, all the top marques are pretty good now, pioneer,JVC,Alpine,Kenwood etc

:D

Actually, that phone probubly cost more than the OPs install....

Just a thought, but won't the 6x9s get a hammering from the sub when they're trying to push air against each other? Is it possible to box them into their own airspace?

i thought this was only a problem on big systems.

ive got a sub and 6x9s and aint had any problems, the parcel shelf does bounce a bit when its turned up. the only thing that has broke is one of my door speakers which has come loose and makes farty noises when its loud now.

good work!

I did a ghetto ice install on my £300 Rover 620 turbo as well!

Had an old (pretty crappy, but had pre-outs) sony headunit. Matched it to a bargain Fli Loaded AMp and a FLi12" passive sub. All in cost me ~£30, and whilst not sounding as good as my avic setup from the celica, it sounds fine for the money!

Cheap, but not my sort of cheap.

Phoenix Gold XS 12" Sub for a fiver,
Maystar QXA250 amp for a tenner.

;)

I've never been a believer of buying I.C.E new, you can get much better, well looked after s/h kit for similar prices if you do some homework.
