So I live in quite a rural area, and subsequently the internet is pretty poor here; my ping is usually around 70-100 in most games, which is just about bare-able.

The problem is my girlfriend. I usually manage to get home about 30 mins before her but when she comes home she goes on Netflix and starts watching Dexter. As a consequence my ping goes through the roof and I get kicked out of my Crysis 3 match (or whatever game I'm playing at the time), so what are my options?

Here are the options I've come up with so far but I'm not sure which one would be the most effective...

  • Get a 2nd BT line installed, but I'm not sure if the installation would be really expensive because it's a second line and not a new property.
  • Wait for 4G to become available in my area and get a dongle for gaming.
  • Find a way to limit her connection, although our internet is so bad it wouldn't really help a lot.
  • Murder my girlfriend!!! :mad: Lol jk :D

What would you guys do?

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll probably get either a second line or a USB modem!
P.s My particular girlfriend isn't the actual problem (I have 99 problems but the bitch aint one! :p) as it could be anybody I live with that watches online television when I'm gaming that causes a problem. If I lived with a brother or a mate that watched porn all day long I'd have the same problem. The real issue is that when Netflix or youtube or any streaming sites are running I get booted out of games for high ping.

I live in the middle of no-where, this isn't an option. It would just be a standard copper line that's available.
 
Instead of coming in and playing computer games, I'd get prepped to give her one (or 4!)

Cheaper than a phone line, and much more fun.

And people wonder why women get bored :p

I'm about 2 seasons behind her and she's impossible to catch up with. She's also impossible to reason with, I proposed that she watches something else until I catch up but that was out of the question :(

About 2.5Mb download, 0.5Mb upload and about 100 ping

Most modern routers have it built in, just tinker with the settings there and you're laughing. I seem to remember the Belkin routers that had 'gaming features' have (or had) presets to give preferential bandwidth to most games. Might want to double check that.

Alternatively, the standard GD advice is go and smash her back doors in. Perhaps if you do that with enough vigour/brutality she'll be unable to walk back to the lounge to watch Dexter for a few hours?

7 year relationship and I only game 1-2 nights a week so it's not that much of a problem :)

She's on the blob and she's watching Dexter about 2 seasons ahead of me...
