With the connectors you culd try pushing a precision screwdriver, or similar, along side the pins whilst pulling on the wire and they should slide out.

Good tip, was this the lighting loom etc? Where did they enter the chassis leg?

Quick tip to neaten the engine bay - thread as much of the loom as possible through the chassis legs. Me and a mate did that with our supercharged vr6 mk2 golf that we built.

Been a bit busy today, will drag my arse into the cold garage in a few minutes.

LOL at 'special fluid'

Some more bits I've aquired over the past week!

Polybushes

Engine mounts

Left to right - rear engine, gearbox and front engine/gearbox (solid)

Some wheels I found on German Ebay

Not sure what to do with these yet, might use them as a trackday set or get them refurbished as I think they would go well with the red? Opinions anyone?

It's been snowing all day here, done nothing in the Supra :( Looks like I will have to burn the midnight oil next week.

Those bushes are very stiff - Gareth used them on his Mk1 and his brothers Mk2 (My old white Mk2 - remember that? :D)

That particular night of slidng a few inches from the side of a sheer drop in your Mk2 will never be forgotten! Most scared Ive been in a car ever!

How stiff is very stiff? Shocks will be Koni TAs and standard GTi springs, should be ok for a daily driver I hope.....

The powder coaters I went to do wheels aswell, will get a quote for a refurb.

The gel update

Gel seems to turn black on the rust patches

DSCF0076.jpg

Gave it a quick once over with a wire brush and wiped with a damp cloth, has come up well, seems to remove all the rust from the pitted areas

DSCF0079.jpg

DSCF0080.jpg

Gave it a *very* quick coat of hammerite to protect it for now and see what the colour looks like

DSCF0081.jpg

Didnt want to use the etch primer yet as I want to do a LOT more prep work to the area.

And now for the rusty tool!

Quick wire brush and wipe gave this

Going to give it another thicker coat tonight and see what happens tomorrow

Looks a cracking project, was wondering though, how do you go about getting insurance on a car like this with such a major mod as an engine conversion?

There's a few companies out there that will insure modified/engine transplanted Golfs, Greenlight is one that comes to mind.

If I can insure a 270bhp modified Scooby at 23, a "classic" Golf shouldn't be a problem at 27 hopefully..... ;)

Aye should be fine unless you live down a farm track ;)

Very impressed with the gel! Time to make an order - did you get yours from the manufacturer?

Qpeng stuff offers an easy solution and Emerald is supposed to be ok, but what about DTA? It's supposed to be very very good for the 20VT.

Not sure on the weight differences of the 20VT and the PB engine, but I think you definitely need to think about putting coilovers on to get your height bang on. Koni T/A's and standard springs would certainly be interesting, as the Koni bodies are shorter than standard fayre.

Are you on ClubGTI? If not, you need to be - plenty of good advice over there.

The wheels? From a sportline, or are they just black centres? I'd get some nice 8" RM's on the car when it where finished. 6"/7" wheels don't do anything for the stance. :)

oooh you wont like that front engine mount. solid as a rock.
I used a volkspeed one in mine. not sure if they still produce them now though. was a floating design, similar to *** rear mount, only with a lot less/tougher rubber. not quite as hard as a solid mount.

but...see how you get on. not much to change them out.

A friend has gone down the DTA route on his mk3 20VT conversion. I think it all comes down to who maps it in the end. QPEng route looks easy and no further mapping required to get it running. It's not going to be an optimum map but it should be close enough for now.

Konis should be fine on standard springs, used this combination on lots of cars. Suits our roads up here well. I think the TA shocks I've got are standard length.

There shouldnt be that much of a difference in weight, block is essentially the same isnt it? Will see how it sits when I finish and take it from there. KW V3 coilovers are on the wish list! :)

G60 brakes are a definate, trying to source some carriers at the moment.

Spent many an hour searching on Club GTi, most of this conversion is well documneted over there thankfully!

Wheels are going to be standard RAs, trying to keep it looking as standard as possible. I think a 8" wide wheel would kill the handling, I'm more of a how it goes not how it looks person :)

The subframe that it's mounted to is bushed from the body so hopefully it wont be that bad. As you say quite easy to change if I dont like it!

Barry did you notice any increase in noise when you fitted yours?
