Some vids, first is the engine starting up, ignore the smoke at the end it's what happens when you dont have an exhaust and the wind is blowing towards you! Looks really bad though! Second is the car moving, brakes have no servo assistance at the moment so I got out of the way quick at the end!

Golf Starting

Golf Moving!

Cant do much tomorrow as the car wont be here, going to assemble everything I can tomorrow and pick up some new rear calipers.

I clicked before I read about the smoke and panicked on your behalf!

Nice Job

Good to see some video! :D

Are you going to consider getting it properly detailed at some stage? If it were me I'd get someone in to do a proper job of it first time, and then take care of it myself afterwards.

I have a PC and plenty of polishes, I intend to do it all before fitting the body kit but time is going to be very tight!

good stuff.

bet it all made it seem that extra bit worthwhile when you seen it move!

I can actually see the end now, good job actually as I only have 7 days left!

As the car is in the exhaust place I decided to try and remove some of the swirls from the doors and bonnet.

Before

Few passes with a PC, a coat of polish then wax

It's goign to take too much time to do all the car before the RR meet, so the bonnet and other door were just polished and waxed.

Not a bad result, car will look OK ish by the RR :D

Tonights update...

Picked up some Golf Mk4 rear calipers, they looked at me funny when I didnt have a reg number and said they were going on a Mk2!!

Car is back from the exhaust place, tailpipe pic. Its exactly how I wanted it, nice and quiet and 2.5" from downpipe to back box.

View underneath (I know the back axle needs doing, it's on the list for tomorrow!)

One problem found tonight, the gear selection cable clip popped out, leaving the car stuck in reverse. Will get a new clip tomorrow hopefully.

Surely they must recognise you by now as the strange guy building a VW hybrid entirely from parts? :D

I dont usually use the one I did today, they were the cheapest for calipers!

It's quite scary actually, I phone the VW parts department and they answer the phone with "Hello Llyr, you got more part numbers for me?" I even have a box with my name on it on the shelf in their stores!

if Llyr is your name, pardon me for asking.... but how do you pronounce it? :o sounds like an extra out of lord of the rings. :p

LOL :D

Taken from http://www.siaradcymraeg.com/pronounce.html

Ll is an almost unique sound to Welsh that can cause beginners difficulty. Unless you were born in Wales and grew up knowing it from pronouncing the place names, or you are a native speaker of a language like Zulu or Navaho you may not know to move your mouthparts correctly. However, practice it is quite easily mastered.

Place your tongue where you would to say an ordinary L and just blow without using any voice sound. It doesn't really matter if the air comes out of both sides or only one.

The ' y ' sounds like ' u ' and the ' r ' sounds like ' r '. English translation is Lear! Lopez will probably be along shortly to explain it a lot better!

Are you leaving out the back seats to save on weight?

Not sure yet, they will be in for the 'ring trip so I have an usable boot. When I'm back I might take them out. The rear seat belts havent been put back so I wont be carrying anyone in the back anyway.

What a ******* day

Car is producing lots of blue smoke when revved, changed the oil (5W40 Fully synthetic) and it's still the same. Compression on all cylinders are just under 12 bar. Breathers are fine.

Plugs are black, I've stuck a new set in and left it running to see how they come out.

The only thing left I can think of is the turbo?

Anyone have any thought? Second opinions would be good at the moment!

I'm off to buy some thicker oil just in case.

******* cars

Sorry to hear that :(

The only things that spring to mind are rings/valve seals and turbo.. Turbo would be my bet if it's smoking all the time.

I hope it's just oil in the system so to speak, but if you've been running it for a while then this would be less of a posibilty.

Can you put some load through the engine to see if it's the same then, i.e. get the turbo working under longer loads?

I think we can eliminate rings and the valve seals due to the compression test?

It's been run for 3 hours now, so any oil should have gone hopefully?

Can't road test it at the moment due to lack of MOT and Tax! ;)

I've got some 10W40 oil to try, will change it after and see if it's any better.
