What a day :D

Started at 6am this morning to the RR meet, arrived about 9:30. Car arrived fine no problems at all to report!

Then came the run, was very worried when it went on, trying to think if I missed anything etc etc

First run in high boost and at about 500rpm it started to det really badly. The run was aborted. Switched to low boost and got 180bhp.

Guys at Powerstation were stars, they said they would check the fueling by running it again in high boost. Again at 5000 rpm it started to det badly but the fueling was fine. I was looking at the screen and saw 255bhp flash up, I was really puzzled didnt expect that at all. Asked the guys at powersation if the reading was right! They asked my how much high boost was, I answered I had no idea! They did another run, this time logging the boost also. Still det at 5000 rpm and a power reading of 257bhp before they aborted the run :D

Curtis said that after a bit if mapping it will be really sweet! :D

On the way home I had a quick lap of the Evo triangle, suspension seems really good, it feels really planted on the road. Inspires lots of confidence.

Need to get the geometry set up and a few little niggles but very pleased on how it ran.

Some pics of the nearly finished article!

That is a lot of power. What do you think 0-60 would be?

It was strugling to get all the power down in greasy conditions, really need that diff I ordered 6 weeks ago from the USA for traction!

I have no idea on 0-60, once the above arrives I'll do some tests!

The butt dyno confirmed it felt like it had some under it even when you gave it a little bit of a boost while warming it up on the road.

Thanks for letting me hop in with you! :)

Very nice job, now to get all the niggles ironed out and everything finished off! :D

Near enough 260bhp!! Top stuff!

Won't pretend to know the difference between high and low boost, tho :p

Mmmmm... Evo Triangle... Not been there for a while, even though I drive the A5 section of it at least every month.

Name me a Saturday and we'll go for a spin. That road down to Bala was good too. Then there's Nant Gwynant, and the moors above Blaenau, and the one from Maentwrog to Beddgelert...

Get yer diff sorted, kiddo :D

Kev

Edited to add - The Golf looks F'ing stunning, BTW. Seriously and wholeheartedly impressed by this project of yours, Llyr. Caps doffed, and all that. :)

Re-edited to add - Jaysussss, think of the fun YOU'RE going to have with unsuspecting rally reps!!! Going to treat all red Mk II GTI's with caution from now on. Just in case it's you :D

Quality stuff dude! Fantastic work on your part and it was excellent that you could make it today.

Great stuff on the RR result, shame it was detting at higher revs but man, it didn't half rocket up that graph :D

Best of luck with getting it mapped and sorting out the little problems. I had a quick peek in the engine bay and have to say I was very impressed... it looked OE!!

It was a bit worrying hearing it det  , hopefully a bit more safe power to come once mapped.

Everyone did keep reminding me I had a spare engine if that one blew up :p

Thanks :) It was good to get positive comments from everyone that saw it, even in its unfinished state.

Best one for me today was when I told Fox at the pub it made 257BHP, the look on his face was brilliant!

257 bhp, with det, and with 1000rpm to go :p

I loved our convo before you went in there

<me> so does the power switch make some difference?
<you>yeah I think so *presses high boost switch* I definately think its a bit quicker

*5 minutes later*

yep... its nearly 100 bhp different ;) :p

Been driving diesels for far too long, low boost feels fast at the moment! :D

Top work man.

When you going to get it mapped?

I will order the interface, some stuff for det cans and an AFR meter Monday, I will map it after I come back from the 'ring (low boost only trip!).

Anything from the seller of the original engine yet?

Nothing yet, will also deal with it after the 'ring trip!

Hats off to you sir, very impressive :) Hopefully you'll get the fueling etc sorted out - who knows what monsterous power it will make :)

Really glad for you that it all went well & a good result on the rollers :)

Any shots of the engine bay in its almost finished state?
