My house renovation project

Boiler being fitted today, bathroom fitted and tiled etc to be finished this weekend.

Kitchen plan being done today!

Kitchen plan done.

It's not 100% correct but there are a few tweaks we are going to do (breakfast bar etc) but I've actually got more cupboard space than I started with even though I've taken the wall down.

Do you have a utility room for the washing machine & dishwasher?

I know you said it wasn't accurate but it looks like the fridge/freezer section in your plan is deeper than the space you have in your photos. That will be hanging out into your door space.
So it will look more like this. Are you intending that door to open outwards?

Hi there,

From the birds eye view it doesn't look right which is why I can understand what you mean, the fridge does stick out and isn't in line with the worktop by the back door.

The reason for this is the protruding part of the fridge is to allow space for the doors to open freely all of the units I've seen in that style are the same.

I don't have a utility room that's just a cupboard front for the washing machine which is plumbed next to the fridge (well, on the same side).
The Dishwasher is in the unit to the right under the sink.

It's a two bedroomed house (Two up Two down) well one down now I suppose!

Nice job so far man. Doing it all yourself and your bro, I commend you. Had my bathroom and kitchen done last year, but not a chance in hell would I attempt it myself, I'm not that DIY capable, motivated or knowledgeable on big jobs like that.

Hope your walls are strong, those dark porcelain tiles are not lightweight. But excellent choice. I've got exactly the same ones on my floor. Was deciding between the black and the charcoal grey and went for the grey. Got them from Topps Tiles. Mine is such a small bathroom though, there weren't many floor tiles to lay :)

That looks really good!
I had to get one of the walls replastered to accommodate the tiles as the plaster wasn't in good shape, the other walls are fine!

For the record I'm not doing it all myself, i.e plumber to re-do central heating, sparky to do electrics, plasterer to do plastering.
I'm just saving a lot by doing the labouring/ground work first i.e demolition, chasing and painting.

Picked up my taps yesterday also.

Stock images, will post proper ones once fitted though!

With a bit of luck the bathroom, boiler and all of the ceiling gubbins will in this weekend and I'll be able to get the new ceiling up next week!

Just had the quote through from Howdens including discount.....
Includes their overpriced excuses for appliances etc.

Bearing in mind there are NO WORKTOPS included in this price also.
£6,502.38 LOL!!

I nearly fell off my chair when the Kitchen Fitter emailed it over to me!
Needless to say I won't be going down that route, I'll probably be going down the diy-kitchens.com route!

Time for a bit of an update!
This is the state of the ground floor at the moment!
New radiator installed, more cables in! (Nearly all done now!)

The new radiator in it's new position, I thought it best to move it rather than have one on the wall below the TV!

A picture of the other new radiator installed.

New boiler in situe, completely ripped out the old system and pipework as it was shoddy.

New gas feed for gas hob in place, there is a new 22mm feed for the gas in the house now.

Few shots of the bathroom which should finally be complete tomorrow!
Two more bits for the bath taps to be installed, tiling to be finished and grouted.

The feature part of the bath tiling.

You can kind of see how it's coming together now!

*ALMOST* There with the bathroom now, put it all together to find out the ball valve supplied is faulty and the waste is very tight with the taps behind!

But taps all in and working just finishing off to do tomorrow (grouting last bit of tiling etc.) then sort the wall out where towel rail is ready for painting and we should nearly be there.

I should mention in this pic the tile where the shower is isn't fixed to the wall properly yet as I've changed my mind and going for a grey strip of tiles up the middle.

Hi there,

We did an initial layer of silicone when we fitted the bath before we fitted the tiles.
There are three more tiles to be fitted that will go behind the shower before we can start grouting.
Once we've grouted we will of course fill the bath and seal the bath properly.

Excellent project mate.
For a 2 up 2 down, it may have been easier to move, lol.
Looks like you've spent/are spending a small fortune, but if you end up with it exactly how you want it....then good for you.

Keep 'em coming, looking forward to the end result.

Hi there,

It probably would have been!
But I would have had to do the same wherever I moved to.
The way I look at it when I'm finished it will be just how I have always wanted it with little compromise.
I bought it 6 years ago and with one thing or another I've always been held back financially from doing exactly what I wanted so I thought now is the time.

Had my 4 panel doors delivered today!

I'm also expecting delivery of my bathroom speaker and LED downlights today also!

Love the progress :)
Driving into Bedford now to go get me a new trolley jack, I'm 8 miles up the A6 away :)

Nice, I'm actually in Kempston of all places!
Slowly but surely getting there, the bit I'm struggling with affording is the Kitchen!

No pictures yet but a few updates coming with pictures soon!

- Speaker wiring for Bedroom, Bathroom, Kitchen, Lounge.
- Boiler Power
- Holes cut for downlighters on Landing
- Cable for Light in Master Bedroom installed.

Also I've purchased a RaspberryPi Version B which I hope to program under siri proxy to integrate with the automation options I have to control the devices from Siri!

How cool!

Well....that needs expanding on.....i'd like to hear more about that dude....seeing as pics are scarce right now :)

Hi there, I'm new to the whole RaspberryPi thing but I'm learning thanks to the internet!
Once I'm a bit further along I'll explain!

Can't believe I've not updated this for a while ceiling is almost up bathroom almost finished big updates coming!

Pictures coming later today!

Few updates:

- Kitchen has been re-measured again today for the new layout.
- Ground floor ceiling all boarded.
- Bathroom wall re-skimmed
- All chases now done for CAT6, Power and HDMI.
- SWA Cable installed to outside ready for garage power + exterior lighting.
- Shower installed.

By the end of the day we'll have the soil pipe boxed in, Media cupboard and the under stairs cupboard built.

Hoping my sparky will be in to do the recessed spotlights soon!
Plastering starts a week saturday.... How exciting!

Some photographic updates:
Knocked out the old understair cupboard and started building the new one!

I'd say about 90% finished with this now!

The Bathroom, getting RH wall re-skimmed and parts re-done as I want it to be A1 before I start painting it (which won't be that dark grey!)

Better picture close up:

Couple of random pictures of the chases in the bedrooms.

Revised Kitchen Plan.

The old plan was too expensive and didn't make the best use of the space I had available so I decided to switch manufacturer (Magnet) and get a new plan drawn up.
It was a fairly simple task to be honest, I told them what I wanted and they drew it all up.

Kitchen ordered and set to be installed in next two weeks!

I nearly cried when I parted with my money!!

LED Strip lights ordered.
Granite worktop - Steel Grey ordered!

Just waiting for the flooring quotes now!
