My journey out of obesity

Colds finally subsiding :D probably prolonged by a naughty weekend with lots of beer, crap food and a lack of sleep.
The speed I seem to refill with glycogen and water scares me I put on roughly 10lbs over the weekend, I've dropped back as of this morning to 2lbs over so I can't complain.
It does leave me looking bigger with my muscles topped off, pulled off some cheeky poses in the changing room this morning and I was pretty happy.

This mornings workout was
Clean and press 1x1 60kg too heavy :o so I moved down and done 4x4 50kg which was just right
Farmers walk 38kg db in each hand for around 50m, that's a test of grip!
Close grip pull ups with 28lb of assistance, combined with bw dips
Then some low pully rows, went straight into the full stack on this so I'll need to start upping reps
Calf raises 3x15 100kg
Tri push downs

It was just a nice mess about session :)

I'm in a loving mood today and I'd just like to express my love for this forum, without it and without you guys who provide some great advice and support I'd probably still be a 17st blob.
While I'm probably never going to be completely happy with how I look or what I lift I'm a dam site happier now than I was just under 3 years ago.
From

In 2007 my first year of uni and those pitchers were my normal drinking container 3 or 4 nights a week

To

I can't remember the last time I drank from a pitcher and I only drink from pint glasses once every 6 weeks or so.

So thank you guys.

Good session today, blasted out some Clean + Press, Squats, Leg Press, Calf raises, Pull downs and Cable rows.
Feel good now, but I feel when I'm stood all day at work tomorrow I will not be in the same good mood :D
Now if only I could look as good as when I'm in the changing room after a session all the time I'd be a happy man!

Having this week off from training as it was probably time for a break, I've been feeling a bit drained recently and I had a sub lux on my shoulder on Saturday so it's probably a good idea to rest that as well.
My diet has also gone back to maintenance or probably slightly over to be honest I'm just enjoying lots of good food.

Good effort mate. I need to get myself back on track, as I've been completely off the wagon for the past three months. I'm on a ship until sometime next month, so I have no real control over what I eat, just what the cook throws at us, which is inevitably fatty as hell. Plus add in the drinking with the crew (which has been pretty much every night for the past two weeks as we're dry docked in the Philippines), then I'm definitely starting to slide down a slippery slope.

I've bought a Polar FT2 HRM which I'm going to use to get myself back into cv shape, and I plan to start a high protein, low carb diet. I'm also going to try going monk on the old Devil brew,a few drinks with friends and family to celebrate my return excepted of course.

Some good info here, so I'll definitely be dipping in & out of here to get some tips.

Cheers,

Cheers mate :)

It's always a bugger when you get stuck in a situation like that, sometimes there is no way to avoid real life getting in the way.

It's good to hear you're planning on getting back into it, making that first step after a break is always the most difficult until you can get yourself back into a routine.

I'm glad to hear that you've found the thread useful, as you can tell I use it mostly just for random little brain dumps :D

Been back in the gym this week feeling good!

Here's my most recent pics taken this morning.

and some from the 3rd Jan to show what almost a year has done.

And I know someone will mention it, I'm aware the beard needs a trim :p

Looking good, the moobs have gone I see. Arms are bigger, look less wobbly around the middle and your face looks thinner too (Or is that just the well placed facial hair :p?)

Looking great :)

Just a small piece of advice. When you do a front double bicep like that, don't pull your arms back. Come forward with them a bit, it brings out more width. When you pull them back, you lose your lats in the shot so look a lot more narrow

Other than that mate, fantastic stuff

Well it's a new year, this time last year I was sitting at 236lbs at the moment I'm hovering around 195ish.
So not a massive weight loss for 12months, but I feel I've had a lot of recomp going on.
First session of the year tomorrow morning, after I've been out of the gym for about 3 weeks so we shall see how it goes!
Cheers for the advice on the posing Steedie, I'll keep it in mind for next time :)

True mate, I just have the sort of personality that likes chasing numbers :D
Just grabbed a quick snap to give me a start of the year progress shot.

You've got to give the ladies a little bit of warning at least! :D
Just done my first new year session and it looks like the January crew don't like mornings I was the only one there!
It went well strength doesn't seem to have dropped and I'll be hobbling my way to work tonight, but now it's bed time :)

2nd session back and there was still no sign of the new year resolution lot, seems I'm avoiding them by getting there at opening time :D
Decided to do some deads, clean + press, dips and a few other bits and bobs.
I can already tell I'm going to hurt like hell tomorrow! on the plus side the only thing that seems to have suffered in my few weeks off is my grip, it was definitely my limiting factor on deads. Hopefully it's just because my calluses had softened up and were causing some pain.
