Used it from day one of converting from ball mice....replaced with same years later & still happy with it...It's a mouse & does it's job. I'm a heavy gamer however & have never used anything other than said mouse (apart from ball mice). So regarding all these other mice people rave on about...razer etc...Am I missing out without knowing it? If this mouse gave up the ghost...I'd probably end up buying another Intellimouse as I know no different & am happy with it....should I move on? Would I notice a difference?? TIA.

Gaming you can find better mice with better buttons to help you in gaming locating keyboard to mouse or speed of the DPI and higher. Your world just got crazy if you dare?

But I'm very sheltered & scared to move on....Seriously I know you're right I just don't like change...also people seem to be having to mess about with dpi & sensitivity b4 they're happy with other mice.....Hardly any of that with my trusty old intellimouse...

If I ever take the plunge I'll refind this thread & post my thoughts....tnx for replying Twinkletoes..

I'm not a fan of tweaking sensitivity. Always set to max, sensitivity buttons reconfigured to other things, or disabled. I'm all for simpler designs. Although I like my G500, I don't use 1/2 the gimmicks (weights are gone, sensitivity tweaks gone, never free-wheel).

I think coming from an Intellimouse (that I use at work, since been replaced by a retired MX510), getting used to very high sensitivity takes a while. But in the end, it's worth it for gaming.

It's not just the basic resolution, but the fact that the mouse will track fast movements better than a low resolution mouse (and small movements of course). On a low sensitivity mouse, there's a threshold where the mouse bottleneck with large movements, whereas a high sensitivity mouse will keep on going. That can results in disorientations in FPS. So if you used to be the sort of ham-fisted gamer like me, it takes a while to adapt.

Also laser is better on non-conventional surfaces. Optical gets easily confused by glass and some other types of materials.

I use the DPI setting to destructive affect in gaming for the perfect head shots. I like to be perfect when i kill. lol But all aside buying a good mouse you can change the buttons on the mouse to whatever you like.

well I bought a razer deathadder respawn...(I needed a new mousemat so the inclusion of boogie bug mat made mouse decision easier.). Well it has the same amount of buttons as my old intellimouse...(I know I coulda went for one with more). Handling...a little larger than intellimouse...prefere the intellimouse....scrolling on desktop...definitely smoother than intellimouse....gaming....made no difference whatsoever... so can't understand these people who say a new mouse has improved their gaming.

Shoulda stuck with what I was happy with considering the expense...but you live & learn.

Only other thing is I can't seem to figure out how to assign macros, also when using my intellimouse, some games never recognised side buttons but I could assign buttons to keystrokes to get around it...can't seem to find anything similar with this mouse's software interface..

Do like the side buttons being on the same side tho...felt awkward on the intellimouse.

Intellimouse was thru ps/2. Razer thru USB....polling 500....dpi 1800 or something like that..movement in games about the same as Intellimouse. Oh well....looking to replace my basic azona (don't laugh) keyboard for a steelseries stealth merc soon....hopefully the glowing leds will match. :\

Sometimes things are overrated. But I gave it a shot...& the mouse mat is ok.

Only thing that made me change mouse was a higher polling rate and a better laser. So it was more precise and accurate - also made tracking a bit better, I have perfect 1:1 pixel movement and the mouse only cost me £10. Its seen me to near pro levels and back with no issues.

the mouse only cost me £10. .

There's always some **** rubbing yer nose in it even further!..(Just kiddin :)

To be fair I've only tested it on battlefield BC2 online so far so not really given it a good run but that above was my first impressions.

Have to say I used to have a couple of pet rats a year ago who both died...I like the way the Razer`s braided cable feels like a rats tail...brings back memories so can't all be bad :)

I have one of these, works great, but when I finally upgraded to a G5 about 3 years ago, I much preferred it. The thumb button is excellent, and the on-the-fly DPI adjustment is very handy. I still use the Intellimouse with the laptop if I ever need to. It is lightweight and still perfectly good!

Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, best mouse ever IMO.

Same innards as the basic, but much nicer to hold (if you're not a heathen lefty).

+1

Just order a pair of them to stick in the cupboard for when my current one dies as they are getting harder to find again now

I used to use an intelli, but switched up for higher dpi mouse as i couldn't be bothered moving my hand about a foot on the desk to reach side-to-side on my dual screen. Otherwise i'd still probably still be using it.

I used to have one till about 18 months ago, dropped it in bbq sauce and it never was quite the same :(

Very good mouse though!

You are right when purchasing a gaming mouse with switchable DPI you will have to test it and tweak it for minimum of a week+. Specially when moved from a standard mouse.

I just purchased my Razer Mamba only 2 weeks ago and have only just found the right DPI and in game sens on CSS. Though CSS demands a lot more accuracy than BC2 and a lot more quick twitch shooting so a lot more tweaking is in need. (Tweaking in game sens with intervals of around 0.01!)

It's a very big move when changing to a gaming mouse and a lot of things are different, like mouse prediction and negative accel etc etc. But it is definitely a good move!
