leeroy how long you been at 5ghz with your 2600K?

2 months mate. but ive been testing 4.8 and 4.9 also. 5ghz for me needs upto 1.59 so although it says im on that, im actually on 4.8 or 4.9 most of the time. I really want to get the volts down for all 3.

@ 4.5ghz atm 1.35v stable Prime 95 for an hr so good nuff for me

usually 2500ks are easy to ok at low volts due to not having HT? i dont think you have a good chip mate

joeyjojo how do you work out the wattage increases? multiplying the OC amount by the 95W TDP?

The readings I gave are at the wall yeh
170W idle
450W load

I just said that if 3.3 @ 1.17 is 95W tdp (from a quick google and official 2500k spec) then if power = C v^2 f (according to this) then the power for 5 GHz @ 1.49 is (1.49/1.17)^2 * 5/3.3 = 2.46 so 146% extra over stock or 233W.

As far as I'm concerned that's not worth it. As soon as you start ramping up the voltage, the power consumption goes up quadratically (50% more volts = 125% more power consumption). For me, as near to stock volts as possible is where it's at

...but for the most people the PC is at idle 90%+ of the time.....SB will idle between .8 and .95 volts on most motherboards.

Yes gurusan and thats another reason i dont really mind too much how high the voltage is i use, as long as the temps are fine. I maybe only use full load for an hour a day at the moment.

so at what point do you acknowledge that although temps are fine the volts are sufficiently high to be causing damage?

When there is any proof that that actually happens. At the moment not a single person has had there chip damaged, therefore i really don't care.

that is the $64,000,000 question. i have not seen any tbh and i have trolled a lot of forums!

And you probably never ever will! LOL. Most people who have fried theirs will be trying to get an RMA so won't post anywhere that they've been going too high with volts/ghz

Yeah I suppose thats the case, I know I wouldnt go shouting about a fried chip until after I'd RMA'd

You won't see any because it just isnt happening. And saying something is 24/7 when offset is being used lowering the vcore 99 percent of the time, is a little false. 1 - 2 hours max a day ill be using enough load to make the voltage to the limits people are scared of using. That isnt about to put me off.

Maybe its because although it reduces the life span of a chip they still have long enough life in them to last this far?

Maybe in 6months time we'll have a massive influx of fried chips with extra ketchup.

Only time will tell. Personally, I don't see the need to go over Intel's recommended voltage, but when you go full water rig like yours, it means you should be ready to take the risk. 1.5V doesn't seem unusual for that kind of overclocking. But I'd try to bring it down a bit with some tweaks.
