Upgraded from X1900XTX to 8800GTX and I have noticed that text and overall desktop image quality is not as sharp and crisp as X1900 (not in 3D). Is there a way to fix this or is it just nVidia's thing?

There should not be any difference. You using DVI - DVI connection? got the res set to the monitors native res?

Maybe you had windows font smoothing option turned off before and it's been enabled now?

In the Nvidia control panel theres an option called 'Change flat panel scaling' you can set it to use the monitors built in scaling or Nvidia's.

No my monitor doesn't have a DVI port so I use the adaptor. Have done some research and there's a way to fix this in Control Panel/Advance but I can only see Standard in the Control Panel. Can I use RivaTurner to access the Advance Timing function?

Its a nvidia thing - something to do with the RAMDACs they use im told

No it isn't, i went from an x1800 to a Nvidia 320mb GTS, and the IQ on the desktop was better, or was the same, the 8 series finally took the IQ crown back from ATi, it was all series cards that preceded the 8's that were crap IQ.

Should be able to switch it to Advanced from the View Menu at the top, or from where it says Standard next to the Fwd arrow, using the drop down arrow.

I hope you mean just the 7 series Nvidia cards?, as the X1800/X1900 had quite good IQ. You had or have the X1800 and I had the X1900.

Every card I've used with VGA has been pin sharp down to the pixel level on TFTs. I'd be tempted to blame the cable, any DVI-VGA dongle, or the monitor.

You did reset/autoadjust your TFT after installing the card, right?

You must all have good eyes as I have not noticed much IQ difference from an FX5200 to an 8800GT :p.

Even my X800XT, 9600NP, GTS 640, GTS 640, 8800GT, 2900XT, no difference.

I plugged in my 2900Pro 2 weeks ago and it did look a bit more vibrant on the desktop and games but as I was already thinking about people's vibrancy differences between ATI and Nvidia so I can't be certain if that influenced me?.

In the Nvidia CP down the left hand side, or right-click your desktop, Nvidia Display and select your (Monitor) display, then Additional Properties, Digital Flat Panel Settings.
