My new build [live]

Motherboard is in :D looking more like an actual computer now haha

@Andydigital

I put it in based on the stickied "System Build Guide" particularly:

this picture in that thread.

So which way is correct?
edit: I tried the other way up - the screw holes don't align at all, so I guess it was right in the first place.

Not sure wether you have or not - but both screws on the Megahelems need to be done up, some people do it all the way others dont. Ive personally not had any problems going as tight as the screws allow - the pressure is needed to make a good contact with the CPU IHS.

That fan sucks air in, i.e. the opposite way to the arrow in that picture, the whole point of the power supply being at the bottom of this case is to draw cool air in through the bottom of the case via the filter that is there, why else have a filter under the power supply ;). Using this method no warm air from the power supply ever enters the rest of the case, its in through the bottom then straight out the back again.

The case in that picture isn't the Cosmos and probably doesn't have a hole in the bottom either.

While you may be right, the screw holes don't fit, you can't mount the PSU the other way up in this case.

Also it turns out that with the Cosmos and the megahalem, the door wont close because of the door fan - so I'm going to remove the fan, I have a spare regular sized fan - but where would be better - top or bottom?

The PSU should have standard mounting holes and my PSU fits perfectly upside down as I have mentioned. Are you sure it doesn't fit because I have 4 screws holding my supply in place and there are at least 3 other screw holes free at the back of my case around the PSU mount to accommodate other screw layouts. My Cosmos is the original 1000 though, they also don't have a side panel with a fan in it either.

Nice setup.

What operating system are you using ?

Have to agree with Andydigital regarding the psu, install it so the fan is facing the bottom of the case:>, and the screw holes should lineup regardless what way round it is.

I'm absolutely certain.... that it does fit the other way up haha :P might have been that I had the case on its side earlier so was more difficult getting the PSU back into place. But yes have turned it the way up you suggested now thank you.

Any thoughts on where I should put the additional fan to replace the door-fan i'm taking out?

I'm planning on dual booting W7 ultimate and ubuntu karmic ( as I need ubuntu for work)

New picture: Front panel cables connected (can barely see on this picture) and these cables routed round the back and down.
All other cables are just dangling unconnected atm. PSU orientation has been corrected:

What model is the case ?

You can mount it to the hard drive stack to keep the hd cooler.

I'm not sure if the clip comes with the case though or if it's optional ?

I have a fan on the harddrive stack already :) It's a Coolermaster Cosmos S.

I do have a question about USB and 1394 now. Basically, I have 2 front USB connectors, and one that will go in one of the back slots, which is fine. I have 3 clearly visible USB connections on the motherboard (see second pic).

However, I have 1 front 1394 and 1 rear. But I can only find 1 1394 connection on the motherboard.... any ideas? (I have already looked in the manual).

This is the rear panel USB + 1394:

These are the 3 usb connection on the mobo (crappy picture but the blue bits):

and the 1 1394 connection I can find:

Those rear headers are normally just if you don't have ports on the front. Most modern boards have a crazy number of ports in the rear by default.

They are optional anyway, I normally don't bother with them as it's just more cables to try and hide.

Yeah, connect the Cosmos's 1394 cable to the motherboard connection, as on the motherboard back panel there is a 1394 socket anyway.

And do you need to use the 1394 connection for anything ?

Considering usb 2 is faster and things like camcorders nowadays use usb2 instead, I think the 1394 is pretty much dying out.

Looking forward to see how you get on with the asus d2x and windows 7x64, as on the asus forums a lot of people are complaining about the windows 7 driver.

Just incase you don't know, download the latest d2x windows 7 driver from the asus site.

A little messy, but IT WORKS, haha :P I'm quite happy with it, need to manage the cables better, but can be done later when I install 2 more fans (ceiling/floor) to account for the lack of a door fan.

Thanks everyone for all your help today!

Also thanks Essexraptor - is my first full build so I'm happy - may have taken ages but basically stopped at every point to make sure I was doing it right!

Time for OS install etc. I would post pics of the lovely graphics but my new monitor doesn't arrive until tmr ;) haha

I wouldn't say spaghetti so much haha :P most of the cables are quite hidden I hope haha, but yes it is a lil bit of a mess, will get fixed with the new fans. I'm a bit of a neat freak anyway :D

Again, thanks everyone, just installing windows now.

Update: forgot to connect the power supply for the xonar lol :P whoops.
