My New Car >>>> Lopez's

Could easily be. That's the trouble with intermittend noises, they're very difficult to pin down.

Just fitted a K+N taken from a Sierra Cosworth to it this afternoon, doesn't make a huge difference to the induction note but the car seems an awful lot more urgent to drive! Do breathing mods really make that much of a difference to these or am I getting sucked in by placebo effect?

Fitting an Apexi fliter was my first mod and I did think at the time that the car wanted to rev through a bit quicker. Sort out the exhaust as said and it makes a pretty large difference as the two cats strangles the car and you'll gain a few psi of boost whilst doing so..

All breathing mods affect the boost a bit, the engine is massively restricted as standard. Not sure how much a filter affects the boost but fitting a full exhaust including elbow and decat(s) will definitely give you a couple of extra psi for free :)

Sorry I'm of no help.

Only time I've ever tried to launch it in first was after spinning on track, and I just got a waft of burnt clutch smell and no movement. That scared me more than the spin.

I put on an exhaust, filter and boost gauge a few months after buying mine but experienced a power *loss* about that time - minor intercooler crack and it only hitting 9psi. I 'fixed' it by fitting the front mount, but I also increased the boost at the same time so cant give any comparison. I'd have to switch back from adjustable actuator to bleed valve to get an idea of what mods at standard boost feels like.

If it helps, I didnt notice much difference moving from a HKS panel filter to cone, bar the noise.

I'm following in your footsteps. Just bought an Apexi induction filter from a guy who was breaking an S14. Used, but a damn sight cheaper than what they go for new.

Exhaust will have to wait unfortunately. I need to sort out the bubbling on the arches before winter is upon us, so that's my priority. My brother has a mate who owns a body shop quite close by, so hopefully it won't be too painful. Depending on price, I might get the bonnet/bumper re-sprayed whilst I'm at it.

Thanks Snow-Munki. There are quite a few of them around, but I had trouble finding a standard one. Most of the standard ones are autos.

Oh you could have had mine for nowt if I knew. I recently upgraded the MAF to accomodate the new turbo and bought a new filter to go on that (didnt realise it would have fitted anyway).

I hear you on the bonnet and bumper, stone chips on the front of the car is a complete nightmare, my bonnet is a complete mess.
