My new car.

Congrats.

Make sure you don't let the modding bug hit you. I know someone who ended up with the bug and it hit him hard, 380bhp+ at the wheels hard

Sexy...very sexy. :)

Get some smoked repeaters and some new clear lenses for the front there complimented by some sexy black wheels, maybe white...:D

DONT DONT DONT use any synthetic oil as it doesnt burn. Remember the engine injects oil as part of the combustion process.

The ONLY way you could use synthetic is if you have some kind of premix petrol with mineral oil for fuel and then pull out the oil injectors.

This does work but you can't skimp on filling the mineral oil as a premix.

Has it been rebuilt at all? What miles is it on?

Lovely car - You'll struggle to get 200 miles to a tank in any RX7 but they're meant to be driven hard :)

Oh it is tempting to do, but current funds certainly don't allow it. But seriously at the moment it feels plenty fast enough. I think they are apparently 280 BHP in what is a pretty light car (i think around 1250Kg) so it certainly shifts. No doubt in about 3 months time I'll be posting a thread asking for tuning suggestions :D

hehe, you think your fuel economy is bad now? I think his average was 100 a week at one point, not doin a large amount of milage either!

Tend to get quite unreliable as you up the power too, or so i'm told :)

Really nice cars though, there is no other car that sounds like them either. This thing pulled like a train, fastest car i've ever been in by far! Nice interior too

Thanks for the advice, what would you suggest as to a decent oil for one then? a quality 10w 40 mineral oil?

No receipts for a rebuild so I assume it hasn't been done. Having said that it starts perfectly at the turn of the key (when warm) which apparently is a good sign. But I am kind of prepared for a rebuild if necessary as I figured that into the cost of the car. I paid £3800 for it which I considered to be an excellent price. Oh and it's currently sat at 60,000 miles so D Day is looming :p

stunning car, excellent purchase :]hope the rebuild is cheap, but then at £3800 you should have some spare cash to budget for it :]

just a quick tip if your not too sure :) ...RX8's there common for flooding....not sure if rex 7's are the same but would imagine they are with the rotary engine.....they advise you to not move the rex a few yards when the engines cold or turn the engine on then turn it off as it causes flooding.....as mine recently did after my dad decided to turn the engine on to close the windows then turned it off which caused flooding :(

you might of knew this but if not its a little handy tip :)

Lovely looking example, but start budgeting for a rebuild NOW, as it will come sooner rather than later on a 60k car. Get it compression tested, that will give you an idea of the condition of the apex seals.

And to echo Ramirez, run it on a good mineral oil, I personally used Castrol GTX.

I do miss the awesome power and presence of mine, but I don't miss the absurd fuel consumption. If you think it's bad now, wait till you start tuning it. Mine got around 7 or 8 mpg when I was going for it, I probably averaged around 12mpg at best.

Oh, and here are some forums for you:

Yep, that's a very good tip. Give it around 5 minutes before turning it off, flooding is especially a problem with cars that are approaching rebuild time.

Come back when you get single figures, then we'll agree on it being horrendous. Until then, it barely even rates "slightly thirsty" on the scale :)

I did know about this, but thanks anyway. I am being very caring (read paranoid) about the engine at the moment and I'm basically letting the engine get up to pretty close to running temperature before I move her anyway. Vain hope I can put off the rebuild cost ;) :D
