Yeah, literally just tapping the outer rear of the unit every few minutes will be more than fine. Seriously, don't worry about it so much. :)

Thanks for the advice, will take note in the future :)

I have an open fireplace. :p

NICE I'd still recommend it to you LOL just kidding mate.

ps On a serious note to OP please do install the cpu / memory and heat sink fan whilst the motherboard is outside the case it makes for much easier work.

Whats the thermal compound used for, do you just put a bit on the top off the CPU?

Yes, a blob on the CPU about the size of a grain of rice before very carefully attaching the HSF. Don't worry about spreading it out too much, as the pressure of the HSF will do that.

HSF? :o

edit heat sink fan?

so, i dont worry about raid, think i will put stuff on mobo then put it in case for ease of purpose, glad somebody brought up the compound question ;)

I take it i can install all the drivers for stuff without the display from gfx card then?, and what about this thing witht the ram, should i just put then next to eachother in the red and yellow slots, or put each dimm in a red slot?

even with these answered, i'll prob get stuck with cables soon enough!

why don't you get a mobo with onboard gfx, then get a gfx card at a later date?

Thats what iam going to do on my new build.

MoBo complete build up outside of case.
Fit fans panels and switches to case.
Fit HDD's to tray and slide in the case :p (LianLi)
Fit MoBo to back board and slide in the case (LianLi)
Fit HDD cables
Fit PSU and cable up everything tidily.
Plug in, turn on. look, listen and sniff.
Get into Bios check and adjust
Install OS
Install games.
FRAG :D

Go with same colours first. So if you have two RAM sticks, put them in the red slots, NOT next to each other.

It works like this, RAM is split into two channels which can be accessed independently. These two channels are split into 2 slots each (which are next to each other) so if you put the RAM sticks in slots next to each other, you'd only be accessing the memory at half the speed you potentially could do! :)

DOH! *kick ass*!!!

and something just caught my eye-what is going into bios before installing os?

BIOS is your friend! :) Here you set the speeds for everything, and configure all the drives etc. You can also monitor the temperature, which is why it is good to go there first, as then you can make sure that nothing is over heating. With a new build I would post for an hour to check that the temps don't just keep on rising, that they do stabilise at something sensible.

Hit del when it tells you, sometime during the POST screen (the screen that tells you about memory, CPU, maybe a BIOS logo like Pheonix or American Megatrends or something)

wonder if anyone can help me i must admit i fink u r all gonna larf at this one...

i am building my first system and i just got a couple of akasa amber fans but i cant get em to screw into the case ?! i mean i thought this was goin to be pretty straight forward but the little screws they gave me dont go into the mounting holes of the fan at all let alone screw in. lol so erm what am i supposed to do?? just use brute force and hope for the best?

thanks for anyone who helps btw great post this is !!
