My new E46 M3

BMKeys is the same guy, he operates out of Rio :p

Excellent thanks for the BBK info. So the BMWP kit consists of the carriers, hoses and wear sensors?

Ah I see!

And yes, £230 for brackets and front hoses or £260 for brackets and hoses all round. They are custom made by Goodridge as they have to be a specific length. Should have my set here in the next few days or so so will be able to comment more on the quality then, but many others say that the kit is excellent so fingers crossed!

As part of the car sale it was one of the additional extras. No time limit either, just "when you want to upgrade".

Goodridge make quality products so I have no doubt they are excellent! Look forward to seeing your install pics and feedback as it will be one deciding factor for me!

Surely it would be a prudent move on your part to buy them now and store them. A lot can happen in a few years, the ownership could change, the business may no longer exist, they may not even remember the terms of agreement etc etc

It's a swapout upgrade hence the price. My 19" OEM wheels are worth around £700-800 max if in good and original condition. I opted not to get the CSL just yet as they're too common a wheel and often replicated so that aspect doesn't do anything for me personally. The American Chrome finish is just more striking to my eyes, at least for now anyway.

If I got a 100% buyer offering me say £7-800 for my wheels then there are a few genuine BBS CSL wheels boxed like new going for £1k with bolts and caps. I'd sell mine and add the up to £300 for the CSLs. That's a bargain I can compromise the reps out there for :p

Edit*
Scratch that, just realised those I've seen for sale for 1k are not genuine CSLs. No "BMW" embossed above the ///M badge...

I must be missing something...never mind.

The brake swap has the rears too? You seriously need it.
I swapped the crappy sliding caliper brakes off the front of my Silvia and put some big ass Brembo ones in there. Braking performance is genuinely worse than it was before, such is the mess it made of the brake balance. Changed the master cylinder for the biggest one and that is an improvement but still it's rubbish and am now putting Skyline GTR rears on it and still might need to go with a bias valve.

Nope. No rears with the brake upgrade. It can be done but there is no bespoke kit at the moment. The BMWP rears are only a single piston affair anyway and offer very little over standard.

Engineering types have already done the calculations and it only shifts the brake bias to the rear by something like 1.4% over standard. To put it into context, the CSL has the brakes biased to the rear by something like 3% over standard. According to many miles on track and the Nurburgring the brake bias remains spot on.

Does the rear calliper colour match with the BMWP upgrade even if it's single colour? I'm assuming the only difference is (or should be!) that the callipers are the same colour as the front!

No where unfortunately. A guy was selling a good pair on the forums the other day and had them up at £1000. They were sold within the hour.

I know, I was just wondering where mrk got the £500 figure from. Most CSL's go for between £1000 and £1500. Apart from here I'm on M3Cutters, Pistonheads and 911UK way too much when I should be working :D

To be fair the SMG pump is probably the single biggest cost for a failure item on these. Everything else can be sourced pretty cheaply and fitted either DIY or via a £35/hr indy. Brakes are cheap, tyres are cheap, sensors are cheap and so on.

There are of course more curious common faults that people post about such as the DSC pressure sensors. 1 of these is a BMW part only and costs around £90 per sensor. The E46 M3 has 2 and if one goes the other could go too so it's probably prudent to replace both at the same time.

Keep on top of fluid changes and the like and it should be a pretty solid and reliable motor really, common E46 issues withstanding :p

Hmm, so you'd advise against any warranty and just taking the repairs as it goes?

I'm trying to find a guide on buying second hand M3s but can't find anything specific - I notice there is mention of SMG pump and the undercarriage?! repair.

I'll continue the research, but isn't very clear if I'm honest. If any M3 owner of a second hand used could help out I'd very much appreciate it.
