the joys of working for an IBM company! it was being chucked so i thought id ask if i could take it and he said take both but the size of those is massive! i could only get one out the building before i thought forget it! :D

even if i did id have no wear to put it! tis very big the pic makes it look quite small but its a meter long by 90cm tall and 50cm accross! 3TB does me just fine i dont even have aneed for 3TB however if im in this week sometime i may strip down the other one and take the extra ram as it has 8 slots so i can fill the rest to get 8gb of ram! may also steal the Hdd's so it shall have 6tb!

Where is the other one?
You could offer it up to anyone who's willing to pay postage or collect it and give it a home.
Or you could take it to bits and offer the parts in the spare parts sticky.

I can't bear to see it go to waste... ;)

just fired this thing up and it runs Unix : /

SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gadzooks man! whats wrong with that???

Flipping eck, there is a script in the How To sticky that does everything for you, just make sure you know the root password for it and your sorted...

Failing that, whack a copy of Linux on it (free download, or buy the cds for about £20-30 for all 14 cds of Debian) buy a book and get learning, we have a very supportive Linux forum, and im teaching myself Linux as I go along.

Are you going to let the OS it runs put you off ? - come on, put your back into it! :p

*EDIT*

I'd love one of those as well...

Seriously, if its a problem looking after two of these send one to me, i'll pay postage. Put it on a private auction on ebay and i'll buy it off you!

These must fold. :p

Hold on everybody. This machine looks awesome but I don't think it's any good for folding. It's Power PC and runs some UNIX-like OS, probably Linux or AIX. The only Folding client available for PowerPC is for OS X. I don't believe there is any hack you can perform to make it work.

You would definitely be able to run some different projects on it. Most, if not all, BOINC projects have open source code and as such you can compile it for your own system and run it extremely fast.
