My New i7 Build Thread :)

See this guide. Should be the same for the Noctua stuff or if in doubt, stick to AS5 ;)

yea i will follow that, i probably will stick to the AS5.

Ive Just order the CPU

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail + Far Cry 2 Game

While its on This Weekonly!

Lets hope some of my other components are in tomorrows This Week Only! change!

i will be using the Ati 4850 1Gb, i chose the 850W psu becuase i will be buying another 4850 in the future

Spend less on the case and get an ATI 4890... a 4850 is wasted on an i7, and Xfire 4850 will be pointless by the time you upgrade.

I had a Email Saying they Will be Back in stock soon but dont know when, I have found that Case a Lot Cheaper somewhere else so will probably get it from there.

I have Received my i7 Today!!

Ok OCUK have sorted out the deal with the Far Cry 2 Game for me now, Thanks!

I have Ordered the Rest of my Build and This is the Final Spec List Below!

Now ive just Got to try and build it!

i havent a clue! dunno what that means ?

I only went with one Last minute, Wasnt planning on getting one but that price wasn't too bad i thought

The SSD's with jmicron controlers have a stuttering problem where they lock for a second every now and again. I believe it can be fixed (or at least made better) by RAID'ing with a second drive.

The Vertex's, Samgung and Corsairs all use a different controler that fixes the issue.

I think the Solid series (you've got) is slightly better than the core series as it has updated firmware, but still uses the dreaded jmicron.

do not get the core(single JMicron can be bad) or Apex (dual JMicron can be half as bad) drives very bad drives you may have issues with them unless you RAID them to hide the Write issues with them (JMicron), get corsair, samsung or vertex (in price and Data rate order)

ignore any SSD thats does not have cache on it

vista mite not install on that SSD, as some reviewers have had problems

have you ordered them now? if you got the option remove it and add the vertex 30gb/60gb or corsair S128, samsung 64gb, Or order an second OCZ core and RAID 0 them (to hide the issue)
also is 30gb going to be big enough to fit vista + programs as you only have 15GB free after install

i have Already ordered it, Im just going to install Vista on it thats it my other programs will be on my Samsung F1drive

i guess you come back and give us an report on it, some motherboards have issues with the JMicron drives (Stuttering issues thats your mouse stuttering), if so buy an second one and put it into raid 0 as the raid onboard raid Should hide the writing issues (should do) or send it back and get one of the ones i listed above

with he setup you got there an bigger SSD been better to keep programs and games on as your samsung HDD be holding the system back (http://www.legitreviews.com/article/954/6/ your is the SSD STT 64gb that has no cache on it) posted into there other group as well

with all that money spent on it i would have got an 64/128GB SSD and put OS and all program files (64gb) and games (128gb) onto that

SSDs are very fast on reads (response times below 1ms) you never want to use an HDD agane for an system drive agane :)
