My new pet

Heh cool. How much has the tank and bits and bobs set you back?

I went a little OTT, but even then £20 covered it (I bought a miniature orchid to go with my orchid mantis!, the substrate I mentioned and a small tank).

Food wise some will only eat flies, whereas others will eat pretty much anything. Either way you'll get a few weeks worth of food for about £2.

Err...does it, well, bite? :o

Hasn't yet :p There are some considerably larger species though, even then I really doubt they would do any more than pinch.

If you get any extra Raikiri, put me down for one :p

Sure, I should be getting 5 (keeping 3). Assuming either Mark A or Aedus don't want one you can :)

I think I'll wait until I've researched them a little before I jump in and get one, so Aedus or Robboftw can take the spare. Thanks for the offer though, I'll be interested to see the photos when you get them :).

I think I better pass for now too, until I research some more into keeping them etc.

Good luck though, keep us updated with pictures :)

She cost me £15 including her tub and a few locust

All she needs is a tall tub/a stick and to be sprayed once a day and fed every 2/3 days

Lives quite happily in room temperature...some of them need a bit more heat but im gonna get her a new house later today :)

When Malt_Vinegar had one in uni, we would go outside, find ants, spiders and moths. Chuck them in his tank and watch him demolish the lot :D

Those things look awesome :)
I always used to want one of them and hopefully I will one day along with some Geckos to go with my turtle :)

These mantis's are not like stick insects are they? As a kid I started with one then ended up having about 100 of them.

Nice pet! I would love a Mantis but i think the cats would own it :( & it would scare the girlfriend ehe i couldn't handle feeding it living food all the time, I can't stand spiders!!

Are some species easier to look after than others?

Anyone kept one longer than 12months? as aparently thats their life span in the wild

They're awesome pets to watch, they have tiny eyes that you can see moving watching you!

Here's Kong my chinese praying mantis.
