My new purchase

Hi Guys

I decided to buy a new hard drive today, due to my Samsung spinpoint 320mb playing up. It has develpoed a clicking sound and makes most of my games freeze. As soon as my games freeze (mainly FSX) the clicking sound starts. It is driving me bonkers. Also, along with the clicking sound the whole pc has become quite slow with lots of HD activity. Time for a new HD.

So, I have got myself a new hard drive today. It is the Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA-II 32MB Cache. Can anyone tell me if what I have bought is a decent HD ?

Is it not a little late asking for purchase advice after the purchase?

Was your samsung still under warranty???

When you say clicking.. is it more of a clunk, then you hear the disk spin up? Are there lots of read/write erros in the windows event log???

I used to have similar problems, and it turned out to be a dodgy sata cable!!

I always go with WD, you generally pay a bit more, but I believe better quality IMO...

WD blacks are pretty much cream of the crop at the moment. I've switched away from Seagate to the WD's for the time being.

Yeah those WD Black have a very good rep. Am considering them for my next storage solution over the Sammy F1's.

DrMekon, yep I suppose it is a little late after purchase, but looks like the gamble paid off.
