Today, I've decided I want to lose some weight/tone up. I'm 16 years old, last year in high school, I'm 6ft 2 and just over 15Stone (I think). I use to be fat when I was younger, but I grown into my weight. (I'm diabetic, inject twice A day, hace consulted the doctor)

I've decided the following routine to stick to; everymorning, go for a 2mile jog; in school, I will have an apple at break, and then will have tuna on brown bread with a fruit salad, and a bottle of water. I'm stuck on what to have for tea, somthing healthy :D and before I go bed, do sit ups. I don't want to do swimming, as I get embarresed, due to my weight. (I ain't proper overwight, its just lose weight, so I am paranoid). I will do the same everyday :D

Any one got any tips/changes you would reccomend?

So the things I need help on;
Is my diet in the day good?
Should I do any different/more activites; situps?
If I am hungry, what should I nibble on?
Any idea when I would start to notice any change within body shape?
Would running and doing sit ups help lose my hips?

Thanks.

Post up your diet with the times of day.

I would highly recommend swimming. Get over your self consciousness and get in the pool.

Situps will only protude your stomach further as muscle builds beneath the fat.

A wholebody resistance split 2-3 times a week to build mass which will increase your metabolic rate is recommended.

Steady state cardio is fine though mix it up with some H.I.I.T, hill sprints etc which will burn more fat.

Not sure if the bodybuilding sticky has any diet plans in it at the top but it's a good read none the less.

There's a lot more to loosing weight than eating some fruit and going for a run unfortunatley.

Thanks mate. Here is my diet with times.

6:00am; Readybreak,
11:00am Break; 500ml of water, with an apple.
12:45 Lunch; Brown Bread with Tuna, fruit salad, and 500ml of water.
5:00pm Tea; No idea really :(

I do computer gaming, so I normally try to munch. What would be the best thing to nibble on?

Regarding running, there is no hills, so any other suggestions?
Is situps worth it then? Anything else I can try to lose my hips?

Thanks.

Generally eating more less often keeps your metabolism going constantly digesting which is good and what you want to try and do.

You've got 5 hours between breakfast and lunch. Ideally aim to eat every 3 hours.

Humous with carrot, cucumber, peper, celery sticks etc is an awesome snack. Nuts too are very good for you.

For lunch try and get a bit more variety. Eating tuna every day isn't advisable. Try not to eat more than a few cans per week due to it's high mercury content plus it gets boring as hell believe me.

Get some eggs in you at breakfast. In general I'd recommend keeping carbs as low as possible. Use low GI carbs where possible such as oats and if you must eat bread make sure it's wholemeal.

Get some chicken, turkey, beef, steak, salmon, cod, mackrel, plaice in you. Plenty of foods to choose from. Combine them with mixed vegetables and you're onto a winner.

You can't spot reduce fat. your body burns fat from all over as and where it chooses. Love handles and bellys tend to be the last places to loose it.

Other exercises to build a strong core can include planks, hanging knee/leg raises, squats and overhead press too.

Also ditch any fizzy drinks and keep squash/cordial to a minimum or cut it out all together. Get 2-3 litres of water down you too.

The diet really is the most crucial thing. Have a search on here and see what you can find for diets might give you some ideals.

If you ask nicely I'm sure somebody will help you work out your maintenance calorie allowance.

It's quite simple burn more calories than you take in. Say you need 2500 to maintain said weigh. A combination of cardio and eating less will put you into a defecit and you will loose weight.

If you nail your diet you could loose weight with minimal exercise. However exercise is good to keep fit and healthy.

Good on you for choosing to do something about your weight too :)

Thanks Benny, great post. I have to watch what I eat, due to my diabeties, so I will have to have some form of carbs in the day to keep my blood sugar level, level. I can try and eat some chicken tikka, and plain chicking on brown breat for lunch, so I will do more variation.

For the eggs in the morning, any idea on how to cook them? What type of egg? What I mean is, you can have fried egg etc.

I will drink water from now on, and I will do situps and the plank. The plank looks like somthing I'm instrested in :)

I ain't keen on celery stick or carrots etc, but I do like nuts. Can you tell me what type of nuts? Dry roasted etc?

Thanks :D

Any more opinions would be helpful :)

I am slightly older than you and have lost quite a bit of weight since summer.
I run 3-4 times a week and at the beginning it's hard but after a few weeks you will see just how far you have come on.

Mabye doing some upper-body work aswell, push-ups, pull-ups, just general weight work.

Remember not to starve yourself, eat properly and you will lose weight in no time!

I forgot you said you were diabetic. So work around that as appropriate.

Scrambled or poached is best. I have scrambled. Crack them into a bowl/jug 2 or 3, add a little milk, some salt, pepper and a bit of proper butter, some olive oil too, whisk it all up. In the microwave for 90 seconds. Take it out, give it a stir and break it up, top half should be cooked/round the edges. Another minute or so. Bobs your uncle.

You'd be best of with crunches over situps as they're tougher but also better for the spin so I've read. Start with your arms crossed on your chest, then as you progress onto your ears and out above your head. I like to do them with my feet up and knee's with a 90 degree bend. You can also do a double crunch which is a regular crunch and then raising your legs up too.

You can do side planks too.

Not sure how good peanuts are. Things like almonds, cashew, brasil, walnuts, etc (what I call 'proper' nuts).

Lots of leafy vegetables etc.

I really would recommend carrot sticks and humous. It's very tasty!

As above, eating too little and too infrequently/not at all puts your body into starvation mode. Metabolism slows and you'll if anything even gain weight as your body tries to survive as long as possible.

Don't over do it either. Ease your self in with 1 run every 3 days see how you respond/feel. Don't dive in at the deep end so to speak.

Get some decent running shoes if you are going to be doing impact CV, as without you'll destroy your feet, ankles, calves and knees otherwise. Good running shoes costs around £40-70 and should see you for a few hundred miles. Money well spent.

Just reading threads for info and advice but just had to post this:

Microwaved Scrambled Eggs = poor show :(

Eggs in a bowl, mix them up, little butter in a pan, melt butter, add eggs, stir and serve at desired consistency :D

You can do. Though nuts are a good source of protein and fats.

Hush! :p

No difference apart from what you end up washing up. Plus you have to stand over watching them. If there was any nutritional difference then perhaps, but I *assume* theres not. It's like grilling bread for toast, although I have to say grilled bread tastes much better than toasted. I mean, bread is bad, boooo hisssss :p

Whilist we are on this subject, I noticed someone said not to drink squash.

The water here is horrible and I only drink squash (unless at the gym, twice a day normally) is it really that bad?

Update!

Woke up this morning at 6:30am. I felt alright, I went bed at 11pm last night. Got up, got ready, and have 2 pints of water and some ready break. Did my stretches and off I went. Whilst I was jogging, I felt my gasternimus become tight when jogging, I didn't hurt, it was just tight. Did another stretch, and didn't do anything, so I just left it. I throught I did alright considering I am unfit. Did short of 2 miles, took me around 20 mins and had 4 breaks inbetween. Not bad.

Got back in the house, and felt good as ever! Did a little warm down (Stretch off) and had another 2 pints of water. I am going to get some running shoes next week, so should help me. I will also be purchusing an Ipod Touch, so that may help too!

All in all, I feel great this morning! Will keep in touch :D

Glad the run went well for you mate. Keep it up and you'll be a stud before you know it.

From what I've read, it's recommended you stick to high in fibre foods so you get full up quicker without eating as much. Apples make for great snacks during your gamer sessions.

Thanks matey. Just had a little read up on the high fibre foods. Bran cereal has a lot of fiber in it, so I could have that before I go bed! I will learn how to do scrambled eggs in the morning, so that won't be a problem. And, apples have good fiber in them too, so thats a bonus like you said when I am gaming :D

Thanks for yout support mate, will keep you's updated!

Make sure you do both Gastrocnemius & Soleus streches. Also try to leave it about an hour upon waking before doing any exercise and thoroughly mobilise all your joints as you've been lying still for a good 8-9 hours.

Congrats on the first run :)

I don't really like a lot of fish or meat. I only like Tuna and for meat, I only like chicken, ham :(

Going to have to broaden your horizons then!

Tbh chicken and turkey taste very similar and have slightly different textures. Salmon is lovely. You need to vary your diet otherwise you're going to hinder your progress.
